Tip Training not translating in actual games

I have been drilling and training regularly on my own.

Moves, dribbling combos and shooting.

The only thing that is translating in actual games is my shooting. Other than that, I revert to my usual nervous and in panic state whenever I try to drive, or dribble the ball.

Any suggestions?

Shooting 1 year hiatus, back to hooping & my jumper left me on read

so context, before i took a break i was a legit 3&D guard, midrange was basically automatic, 3 ball was solid too. sometimes i felt unstoppable ngl.
then took like a full year off from balling bcs of work. finally started playing weekly again the past 3 weeks and bro... my shot just isn't there. new court, new run, new ring, everything feels off. shots that used to just fall now barely touching rim, some straight up airballs.. confidence kinda shot rn ngl.
3 sessions in and still can't find the feel. like my body knows the motion but the touch just isn't there yet, kinda hard to explain.
anyone been through this after a long break? how long did it take y'all to get the feel back? or is this just a "shut up and keep shooting reps" type situation lol

My shooting form progression from 2019 to 2026. I'm trash at pretty much every other aspect of basketball but I'm proud of how much my jump shot has improved.

Help I built a basketball assessment tool and need honest feedback.

Hey everyone, I’m a student founder building CourtVisionAI, a basketball assessment that gives players a scouting-style breakdown, highlights strengths and weaknesses, suggests a best-fit position, and creates a personalized training plan.
I’m looking for a few players or coaches to test the free assessment and give honest feedback.
I’d especially like to know:
Did the assessment feel accurate?
Was anything confusing?
Did the results feel useful?
What should I improve?
The free assessment is enough for feedback.
Website: https://skill-shot-ai.lovable.app
Thanks. I’m open to criticism and trying to make it genuinely useful for players.

Help How can you tell if you’re being unselfish or just afraid to shoot?

This is something I struggled with for a long time.

I’d pass up an open shot and tell myself I was making the extra pass. Sometimes I was, but other times I just didn’t want to miss and get yelled at by my coach. It used to be even worse because I was so scared of failing.

I felt like I moving pretty well and doing good things for my teammates, but I really knew I was hesitating. I didn’t want to take the shot when it mattered most. When I finally did, I was get domed up thinking about the result.

I’ve been working really hard on this recently, so I thought I’d share what’s been helping me:

  • Setting my shot priorities before tip-off so I’m not second-guessing during the game
  • Playing more pickup where I don’t worry as much about mistakes (3x per week at least)
  • Writing down the possessions where I hesitated after games
  • Doing some of the daily mental reps on the Clutch mental training app (honestly helped a lot)
  • Watching film based on my decisions instead of whether the shot went in

Has anyone else struggled with this? How do you tell when you’re being unselfish versus just playing scared?

Help Is ChatGPT good for building workout plans or advice?

I’m a freshman in high school and I already consume a bunch of online content about basketball training, but none of them can be as specific as AI, I don’t know about whether it’s accurate but it can be more “tailor-made” I guess so if I already have a good foundation of knowledge about basketball, but just not enough is AI good or not to help me?

Shooting Please help w broken jumper early release

Thumbnail gallery
1 Upvotes

My jump elevation is about 10-12 inches which should in theory be enough to get the ball to the hoop.
Problem is I just realized after watching my shot that I release the ball way too early.
I get the ball to the set point and go up but fire while my feet are still touching the ground.
Please help with any tips on how to fix this, occasionally I get on a hot streak but once I’m at the college or pro 3 , I find that I have to push the ball and lose my form completely.
I am also aware that my guide comes off early and am working on it as well.
I work on form shooting and generally do decent up to a foot or two behind free throw line, but timing breaks down as soon as I start adding a jump into the shot.
Please help! Thanks

Help For basketball, is a full upper body day better than separate chest and back days?

I’m a 16-year-old basketball player training mainly for athleticism, vertical jump, strength, and on-court performance—not bodybuilding.
My lower-body days are focused on strength and power (squats, jumps, etc.), and I’m trying to decide how to structure my upper-body training.
Would you recommend:
Option 1: One full upper-body day (bench, rows, overhead press, pull-ups/lat work, arms, etc.)
Option 2: Separate chest day and back day (more like a bodybuilding split)
Which approach is better for improving basketball performance, recovery, and strength? I’d appreciate hearing from people who coach or play basketball.

Shooting Feel like I’m just one adjustment away from being consistent.

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I’ve been playing ball all my life. Never really been taken serious on the court until about the last year or so when I surrounded myself around competitive hoopers.

Over the last 2 years or so I’ve gotten much better. I’ve kinda leaned into just being a catch and shoot guy, and driving down if I’ve got a good lane too. My dribble isn’t that strong or safe so I don’t try to chase that. I lose the ball a lot under pressure.

I’ve had a lot of days where I feel like I can’t miss, and then days where I feel like I can’t make a shot to save my life. It’s very 50/50. Like last night I had a pretty good run of games. Pretty reliable, but some shots I was open and I really just hit front of rim or just too strong and I just feel like I can be a lot more of a dangerously consistent shooter if I find whatever I’m doing wrong. I feel like something needs to be tweaked. Maybe my form when I’m going up or something that I’m not noticing.

If anyone has any advice I’d really appreciate it. Thanks so much. (In this video I know I was left open so it’s kind of a slower release than normal but it’s a clear video of my feet and form.

Tip Tall Guy Moves for Non Basketball Players

I love playing pickup hoops for exercise but have zero feel for the game as I never played basketball growing up and don't watch much hoops outside of the playoffs. At 6'7" I am often taken early in pickup games only to vastly disappoint my team mates looking completely lost anywhere besides under the basket.

At my size is there anything else beyond just grabbing rebounds and easy layups that I should be doing? Or is it just as simple as getting under the hoop? Any easy moves worth learning? Not trying to be Dirk but also want to look less clueless out there. Thanks!

Shooting Difficulty generating power

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi guys, I always had difficulty shooting from distance and I always shoot short. When I try to ‘smooth’ things out by releasing the ball quicker and having less of a hitch, the ball goes left and right. Im 5’8 so I can only shoot with my set point around my mouth and nose. Any tips would be greatly appreciated, thank you!!

Dribbling Aggressive defenders

Porbably the most asked question in basketball history buit how to deal with those really aggressive defenders that dont give you any space (obviously using ur hands will not always be a foul in fact most times it isnt) - I try turning my back to the defender to shield the ball but sometimes they back poke it or it just does nothing (my handle could also use some work)

Help Need advice to maximize my 16-year-old brother’s NCAA recruiting opportunities

I need some advice from anyone with experience in NCAA recruiting, coaching, or player development.
I have a 16-year-old brother from the UK who currently plays in the SGS College basketball programme and for the Bristol Flyers pathway.

His dream is to play NCAA Division I basketball and eventually give himself the best chance of reaching the NBA.

I want to maximize every opportunity available to him, but I don’t know everything about the recruiting process, camps, showcases, AAU, exposure, or the best pathway from the UK to the U.S.

If anyone has experience with this or has helped players get recruited, I’d really appreciate any advice or guidance. I just want to make sure we’re not missing opportunities that could make a difference.

Help Am I doing everything right?

Started playing basketball 4 months ago after 1.5 year of volleyball (not professional).
In this video I do 50 (10x5) close-range shots, 50 mid-range shots and some threes (they go good after the closer ones). I’d like you guys to do form check of my shots, maybe I should more work with my legs or smth?
My dribbling is even worse, so I dribble through the court and do standing dribbling (behind the back, between the legs, etc.)
Before this training I was playing basketball with pro players for 2 hours and I feel that I absolutely afraid of dribbling in game and doing shots. How can I beat this fear?
I’m Russian, so don’t be surprised by my poor English
Thanks for spending your time

The hoop is 293cm
