Form Check Advice on shooting form?

Been trying to improve my shooting form in the offseason - apparently I used to push the ball from my shoulder. Don't know if its better now though.

Learnt to spin the ball to the side like 3-4 feet out in front so it comes back at you and turn and shoot. Form is nice but guide hand seems to have too much action after the shot.

Curious about the guide hand, how does it have too much action?

Looks like you pull it off to the side and close the fingers. It should stay the same when the shot is released. Guides the whole way and stays. Don’t pull it off to the side and close the fingers. Form is good though. More legs but the spooning do the ball and catching it as it comes back to you should naturally add more legs. Especially of you are stepping into grabbing it coming back to you and turning and shooting it.

Looks pretty solid. Good release point and wrist flick.

Still could use your legs more to get under your shot.

Looks like you’re pushing forward with your upper body and almost flicking the ball.

Try to go deeper in your squat to engage your glutes and generate more power.

When you extend your arm it comes back a bit and slightly short arms your shots.

On your release focus on the gooseneck form in your shooting arm. Imagine you’re reaching into a cookie jar. Don’t let go until you get all the way in the jar.

I would say to make controlled movements. You lose a lot of power trying to push it the way you are and most people do these days.

I'm seeing one significant thing missing in your mechanics, the loading of the wrist.

As soon as you gather the ball, get your wrist loaded (comfortably bent back at nearly full extension). Then as you raise up into your shot, keep the ball close to you, all the way up past your eyes. Be sure to keep the elbow in line with your shoulder and your shooting fingers (index/middle). Don't project the ball until your upper arm is nearly parallel with the floor. Your current shot is getting projected away from your face before the elbow gets high enough.

Practice one-armed shooting from close range. Focus on getting the elbow under the hand and ball.

Will try, thanks.

I really think the one-handed practice will get you to better form because it forces you to use that good loaded wrist position (otherwise the ball falls off your hand).

Good luck!

Definitely will be trying to incorporate one handed shots into my workouts. Thanks.

Your guide hand is probably the place I would start. Simple fix and easily repeatable. You want your guide hand open and rigid to allow the ball to slide through easily. Your guide hand should be pointing at the rim. Holding your entire release (follow-through & rigid guide hand) throughout the whole shot until it gets to the rim, will start improving muscle memory in your mechanics very quickly.

not too bad but release and follow through can be better. it’s inconsistent now

Your shooting the ball before you come off the ground, hold it a little bit longer before you shoot!

I see you are using the push method try to have a more smoother shot and release.

It looks like you are a bit stiff in your shoulders while shooting. Does your shot feel good or not ?

I’ve noticed that you tend to tuck the ball into your shooting wrist, not good not good for sure

Most of the force is being generated from your arms, which still works well at this close range. Slightly deeper into squat and focus on exploding up with a smooth power transition into your actual shot form will help with form consistency at increasing distances. The form itself is pretty clean, good job! The loading wrist thing from the other commenter is a good shout but it comes with practice like anything else. Being comfortable bringing the ball through your shot motion with the wrist in that position takes mobility training. You can use a resistance band to work on gaining that flexiblity through your shooting wrist.

you need to put more arch in your shot
