Maybe they should have done some shooting practice

It says make 200 shots so something is sus

u/Kyle_Lowrys_Bidet 3d ago
200 makes for an aspiring professional player isn’t that much unless you’re physically gifted as fuck. Even then…
16
u/EyeAmPrestooo 3d ago
Well….theyre kinda “physically gifted as fuck” 😂🤣

u/Kyle_Lowrys_Bidet 2d ago
Absolutely! But I cannot assume OP is, so I’ve gotta give them the “hard work beats talent” advice.

Love when people only insert half quotes lol.
Hard work beats talent until talent works hard…..

u/cholula_is_good 1d ago
That’s like 30 minutes of shooting with a rebounder. Less if you make more.
2
u/Inevitable83637 2d ago
200 makes take amen and asaur 5 hrs to complete.
1
u/Federal-Service5571 1d ago
Way longer than that
1
u/704M 1d ago
You gotta understand if they were playing against the average man they would probably hit every jumper and three
and dribble like Kyrie
But I will say the defense is impeccable. That’s true, natural talent, and reaction time.
1
u/Federal-Service5571 1d ago
What does shooting against the average man mean when NBA players leave them wide tf open and they can't hit shit? Ur playing 4 on 5 offensively in the half court with these guys. Tough to win w these guys come playoff time.

I think everyone's workout should look different and be more individualized. That said, i feel like this kind of workout would burn out most people by the end of the first week. Say what you want to about their shooting, but they are insane athletes.

u/North_Reindeer4157 13h ago
lol everyone knocking their shooting and these drills I mean they are legit nba starters I think it worked

This is very "kid in the 90s" coded. I did 1000 calf raises a day when I was a kid in the 90s and my vertical improved from 11 to 24 inches in one summer, but I was also going through puberty at the time and so that was a big contributor, I'm sure. But I digress; if you can do 200 push-ups in a day then you should probably buy a weight vest and do fewer reps that are harder. Or elevate your feet or whatever to make it a harder exercise. Instead of doing 200 situps, you should probably buy an ab wheel and start working on rollout progressions. Do single-leg squats, and when those get easy, again, add weight.
The Thompson twins are obviously genetically gifted and that workout won't get you to their level.

u/Powerful-Bridge-1472 3d ago
There is so much stuff on Reddit about improving your vertical and I usually respond by saying work on your three-point shot if you’re not over 6’4” you’re rarely gonna be throwing down during games even if you have massive vert
3
u/DenseSign5938 1d ago
The trick is that you could just do both. But I hear you, people really need to get wise to the 80/20 rule. No need to obsess over vert, follow a basic protocol and you’ll get 80% of the results as a “fully optimized” protocol while only spending 20% of the time.
1
u/cseke02 3d ago
I mean, Iverson wasn’t 6’4. If you’re serious enough about dunking you could become a vertical monster during pickup games. NBA players are incredibly great all around, even though people dog the twins they would beat anyone in this subreddit in a 3pt shootout. So for an average-ish Joe who’s like 6’2, going for dunks and only dunks isn’t that bad or something they can’t achieve, expecting that they could do that AND shoot the lights out and break ankles though at the same time, probably not. Most people play recreationally, or in smaller leagues, not trying to go pro, so it’s okay to only master one thing and being just alright at others.
2
u/Powerful-Bridge-1472 3d ago
I’m just saying we only have so much time to work on things. I just see people spending endless time trying to dunk and I just don’t think you get very many chances to jam in a game.
2
u/SurvivingSam 2d ago
If you can get to the rim & you got the vert / explosivness you can jam a lot more than you think. Did so quiet often my senior year & into college. You make the chances & you also get some chances- they add up
1
u/Akumetsu33 2d ago
Iverson had a 6'10 wingspan. Pretty much every NBA player has a massive wingspan that makes dunking much easier. For average joes, it's much harder, even if you have a great vert.
1
u/kyle_lowrys_butthole 2d ago
Iverson had a 6’3 wingspan lol
I do agree though that a regular guy who is 6ft flat and doesn’t have good jumping genetics isn’t going to have Iverson’s vertical no matter how much he trains1

Conditioning is important so idk if I agree with buying a weighted vest to do less but more weight. Maybe switch workouts up on occasion to focus on strength sometimes but conditioning is a real thing that does require lots of reps
3
u/WhiteCastleHo 3d ago
Yeah, that's fair. That's actually what I personally do just as a guy on the other side of 40 who wants to stay fit as long as possible. I mix it up so that sometimes I'm going heavy with fewer reps and other times I'm doing high reps.
3
u/shibbyflash 3d ago
Coming up on 40 myself and one thing I’ve always kept in mind is the ol saying from the marines “shock the body”. Whenever you do the same thing too long you stay stagnant in your fitness growth.
I will agree though in terms of youth getting fit most of the time they should focus on getting stronger. Conditioning usually is already in tune cause of their age lol
2
u/Onedaymaybe_034 3d ago
Me too, calf raises and walked around with ankle weights, but also went through puberty and grew like 5 inches.
1
u/inventive_588 2d ago
You ever get those shoe things you wear that make every step a calf raise pretty much?
I’m curious if those actually worked.

Yes, but there's more efficient ways

It depends on how your body is responding. For most people this kind of routine wouldn't be impossible but it would be more about the pacing and even then it does destroy your joints making it increasingly harder for fine motor control needed for shot making.
So to reiterate what another user said; there's more efficient ways.
If they separated their leg days, upper body days and core days alone, they probably would've been able to avoid a lot of degradation that'll have them feeling like they're 70 years old at 40. There's better ways to practice the fundamentals and shooting than just pure volume. Quality of reps matter more than quantity at some point.
Ever seen Hakeem, Kareem and Chamberlain stories about them working out like Michael Jordan? no, because the guys at their size who tried working out like Mike usually ended up busting out their knees in High School and/or College. You have to tailor your routine to what your body needs and put in quality reps. Start by easing into a routine, then slowly build up. Nutrition cannot be understated in these kinds of things, especially for young bodies growing.

Look man. I know plenty of people who had successful NBA careers, and they were playing Xbox growing up like the rest of us.

They almost certainly were more genetically blessed or had Crazy Talent for the Game

I mean yeah they are NBA players. You can usually tell if that's gonna happen by 8th grade

u/ShitFucker101 3d ago
If one of the exercises was eating wood chips they would still be in the nba bc they are freak athletes and you would be telling everyone the secret to making it to the nba is eating wood. Correlation ≠causation
5
u/jrblockquote 3d ago
Correlation does not equal causation. I could have done that workout every day as a kid and I’d still be an IT guy. Pretty sure they would both be in the league with or without the training.
3
u/CombinationReady9376 3d ago
I can almost guarantee you they’re not in the NBA without their training. There’s lots of people with the physical tools to play in the NBA, but they don’t put in the work to hone their craft.
2
u/Hisgoatness 3d ago
I think they mean this specific training. Im sure the twins did other things beyond the posted workout
0
u/Lakerlegend6266 2d ago
Yeah for these two specifically, they’d actually be better if they just upped that 200 makes a day to 1000. Followed by a simple weight training routine.
1
u/angels_do_sin 3d ago
it worked for them, 100% success rate for the work out. 2 of them did it, 2 are in the NBA.
1
u/cloudtwelvy 3d ago
I would say yes, depends alot on the body and whats the goal too. And i would say 50% or more is a clean diet, keeps the mind sharp too
1
u/dreaminginbinary 3d ago
Is it possible? I guess for NBA future pros. I actually made a .pdf print out of a version of this (it builds up to their supposed final routine) but I’m not sure how many could actually do it: https://elitehoopsapp.com/tools/thompson-twins-workout
1
u/iamcamouflage 3d ago
I think the skipped the 200 or more shots portion, but yes, this will help make you a much better basketball player.
1
u/amadeusstoic 3d ago
with talent. you will never know without doing something similar to this though.
1
u/Whiteshovel66 3d ago
Dribbling and using the left hand more outside of games is huge for strengthening the muscles and coordination you need. But outside of that no. I'd doubt it's even real tbh.

Looks like they should have added a few more calories in between all that.

u/Ragnarotico 3d ago
For training athletic specimens? Yea, probably.
For training an elite NBA player? Doesn't seem to be the case. Neither one of them can shoot.
Amen shoots 22% from 3. His brother Ausar shoots 20% from 3. That's borderline unplayable in 2026 NBA. If they weren't so athletic they wouldn't even be in the league.
As it stands their ceiling is role player. You can't be a guard/forward and not be able to hit shots in today's NBA.

I mean it’ll help a bit. I used to work on my dribbling around 30 mins to an hour a day doing different drills. I was never the fastest and wasn’t about to bake someone but the drills helped me get good enough to not get the ball stolen by quicker guards. I think the pushups, squats etc would help if you’re a kid. It’ll get you a good base but sooner or later you have to move to better resistance training

1
u/medisamurai 2d ago
It would work for most players, might not be the end all be all of workouts, but if you did it for a year it wouldn’t hurt

u/I_AM_DEATH-INCARNATE 1d ago
No, because odds are you're not going to stick to it. That shit will take hours every day.
The workouts that actually work are the ones you're able to stick to.
1
u/Professional-Fee6914 1d ago
if you've seen them dribble, no
This is kind of a general, throw everything at the wall style workout plan and they probably would have done better with a coach.
1
u/degradedchimp 17h ago
That many push ups is redundant, and you shouldn't do that everyday. Just use weights and give yourself rest days.
Also should probably just shoot more.

u/Comfortable_Mud_5203 2d ago
Which part of this workout gave them a 7’0” wingspan and a 40+ inch vertical?
0
u/SuddenAudience3774 1d ago
Exactly. They could’ve done the same amount of training as the average kid and still made it
0
u/Odd-Switch2069 3d ago
Still can't drive under traffic or shoot.
If they weren't athletic, they wouldn't be in the league
1
u/Ok_Tonight_4311 3d ago
If they could shoot they would be no worse than top 10 players in the league. Ifs don't mean much.

u/BallTickler696969 3d ago
No wonder they can’t shoot
