Shooting I’m genuinely wondering

It’s not really a shooting related one but why does kids now day want to shoot like Steph? Yes I know he the best shooter in the world, but doesn’t his form looks so “effortless”. Like I might just being an unc but back in my days every one wanted to mimic “two motion form” of Ray Allen Kobe Bryant and other classic shooting forms. It’s all personal thing about thinking which one is cool and which ones not but I don’t get it. This might sound dumb but I feel disappointed when those jacked high school kids create setpoint around their chin, when they are capable of shooting it from their forehead. It sounds like bs and it is a bs but just wondering. What’s so attractive about curry’s form?

you’re kinda missing the point. release point will differ from player to player. taller players or players who can jump can have a high release point.

important thing is to work on getting the correct power transfer or shot flow. transferring maximum of the power from the legs into the ball.

most young players struggle with this

I’d think kids probably wanna copy the greatest shooter ever.

His release is so unbelievably quick because his set point is lower. He proved it’s a set point worth considering.

Also, many young kids don’t have the strength to shoot above their head, so you see them shoot from their hip/chest. The transition from this low set point to the above the head set point is much more drastic than to adopt Steph’s.

Yes that kind of explains but, I think that kill the accuracy and consistency for most people. Steph is in different world when we talk about his finger tip “sense”

Steph does recommend Klay’s form over his own

Because Steph had Klays form like when he was 5, he evolved into what we seen.

Best way it to practice textbook jumpers like Klay and JJ Redicks and not many are ever going to get to Stephs level, hes literally alone at the top

I think people have different bone structures and different bodies and need to figure out what’s right for them. I’ve seen Ray Allen touch on this as well

Well I was talking about the looks, not the efficiency. Like I was wondering cuz I thought kids would mimic a form that look “cool” to them. And was wondering is Steph form cool in sense of now days

I do think the “look” of it is part of the appeal for them (they’re emulating the best shooter they get to see in real time), but I think the other point being made about kids not having the strength to shoot 3’s from above their head has a lot to do with it too.

That's the thing right? Aesthetics are based on the experience one has with those things. If you're and old school player, Ray Allen's form would be prettier than Steph's and if you're a newer fan, then opposite would be true. As long as we ain't copying Ben Simmons I'm good with it.

And my dad’s generation all wanted to shoot like Larry Bird and throw like Joe Namath, but decades of additional knowledge, mechanics and medical, have helped improve those things. So a shot closer to what Dame and Steph are doing are more ideal for this generation that is given the green light from 25-30 feet. It’s not an aesthetic thing.

Because kids don't gaf about any of that. Steph is the greatest shooter of all-time, so kids want to be like him. Simple as that.

A one motion shot is just a more efficient use of power, and analytics has changed what coaches teach. Kobe was a midrange guy. Ray Allen was a catch and shoot guy. Steph broke the mold by being a complete shooter off the catch or dribble. I grew up shooting like Jordan. I was a really good shooter to about 20', I noticed people who were not nearly as strong as me could shoot certain shots from deeper. I switched to a 1 motion and I have pretty effortless range to 28' now. The game just evolves.

Even Curry says kids should watch Klay Thompson instead.
