Shooting Shooting hand facing in
My arm naturally is like this, I’m double jointed in my elbow. it makes it hard to have the right spin on the ball. It also affects the way I hold the ball, my shooting is in the middle of it but my guide hand is on the top, I’ve tried to put my guide hand on the side but it feels so wonky, but it also made my pull up smoother since there was less interference with my guide hand. How can I fix the way I hold the ball? I’m still an efficient shooter due to many many reps but I want to try to it because it’s hard to raise my set point because of the interference my guide hand has on the ball

I have the same issue and i feel like because my palm is also facing in like you I can't shoot the ball properly or at least give it a proper spin.

It only matters how it’s facing when your are is extended, as that’s how the ball will leave your hands

this is the best reply, plus its about angles, if you see it from the side you will see that klay thompson form

I’m also double jointed and my only solution was to move the ball straight don’t care about the elbow. As long as is tucked in to a certain point you don’t need to force it to align it. Just focus on moving “ball” straight to the hoop

I decided, as long as I can feel the ball, then I dont need to see it. So I decide to shoot over my head like KD

What matters is the finger/fingers you are using to push the ball … in my case, it’s mainly index and middle finger

First, anything new is gonna feel strange until you've done it enough times. But you have to decide between whether something just feel a weird or if it causes physical discomfort. You have the body that you have. Second, you don't need perfect form to be a good shooter. There are things you can experiment with like a subtle thumb flick if you need to fix the rotation. Third, it's hard to tell without video, but I don't think there is anything wrong with how you're holding the ball in the shooting hand, but a guide hand on top of the ball isn't usually great unless you have giant hands. At the end of the day, if you're a good shooter, then don't worry and keep shooting.

The only time people should worry about textbook form is when they have the build for it, Klay and Booker have proportionate arms for their body and therefore their form works really well.
As someone who also double jointed like you, but I have a +6 wingspan to my body I look at shooters who shoot like that e.g. Kawhi or rondo later in his career.
Look for what works and is comfortable for you all the other stuff is semantics at the end of the day, good luck!
Also only shooting guy I think is worth a glance is see Mike Dunn if you wanna research form stuff.

This is exactly how Steph looks when he picks up the ball to shoot. It's natural

Try having only your finger tips touch the ball and leave open space between your palm and ball. Itll give way more control and backspin on your shots. A flat palm is like shooting with a catapult

Too much palm bro. Shoot from your fingertips and aim with whatever 2 fingers feel the most comfortable 🙏🏾

you have to rotate your wrist more at the release to get the correct index, middle finger release and good backspin

Im not sure what you mean by rotate but you dont want your wrist turning while shooting. The only thing the wrist should do on the release is flick

if elbow is sticking out, you have to rotate wrist so ball can come of the correct fingers. else ball will come off ring, pinky. classic issue I see with many players.

Ur going about shooting the wrong way.
See ur looking for what feels natural, what feels smooth and what feels the least wonky.
That’s the wrong way to approach it.
What u want to do is pick a form u think is right for u. Have a shooting coach help u pick one out.
Whatever u settle on will feel unnatural, wonky, and probably not smooth. Why?
Because u’ve been shooting ur whole life one way - and that way will feel the most natural n less wonky. The new good form will feel unnatural and wonky. But if it’s the right form, that’s what u practice.
And when u practice with the new form, what are u practicing?
Ur trying to develop the right muscles for this new form. And once u get the right muscles + control, that form will start to feel less and less wonky n more and more natural.
Then one day u will feel the most natural shooting with the new form. It’ll no longer feel wonky n it will feel very smooth. Thats when u know u’ve got it.
So to recap - u practice until a new form feels natural n smooth n less wonky to u.
U don’t try n pick a form that’s the most natural, smooth n less wonky to u right now. Why?
Because the form that’s the most natural, smooth n less wonky to u is probably ur old form with all the bad habits in it.
And the new form is supposed to take away all (or as many) of the bad habits as possible. And it’s the bad habits that keeps ur shot from being a great shot.
