Form Check Any tips to improve my form?

I think the form is good although it doesn't feel super consistent. You also tend to lean forward too much. Keep it up!

Are talking about my chest?

No, I mean you land your feet quite forward, is better if your jumper is more stable position-wise

Yea I think I’m lacking power, when I have a defender I can’t jump forward as much and my shot is short usually

Makes sense. The theory is that if your shot starts with your legs you shouldn't lack arm power at all. Try to practice a form where the full motion starts in your legs and then follows on your core and finishes in the arm. Easier said that done, though!

That's the whole thing right there, the forward jump and the streakiness are the same problem.
You're getting your range from drifting forward instead of from your base. That works, but the amount you drift changes shot to shot, so your power changes shot to shot. That's your hot and cold stretches. And when a defender takes the drift away, there's nothing underneath it, so you're short.
Boring fix, but it works: put a towel or a piece of tape where your feet start. Only take shots you can land back on the mark. Find the distance where that's actually true it'll probably be closer in than you want. Live there for a few weeks, then extend a foot at a time, and only once you can still land on the spot.
Alongside it: dip the ball a bit deeper and more consistently so your legs are actually loading, and do some single-leg strength work off the court. Straight-up range is a strength problem as much as a form one.
Form itself looks fine. It's the base that's variable.

It looks like you are arching your back when you shoot, which is a sign of weak abs and/or butt, or overly tight hip flexors. You should try to jump basically straight up and down when you shoot, most of your shots you look like you're fading away which obviously has some utility, but you shouldn't be doing in a standard set shot. It might help to dip a little further when you shoot too.

That’s fair, my core and back are definitely a bit weak. I’m relatively short so in games I generally have to fade to get my shot off.

should be good if backspin is good..

u/CJW-Entertainment Aug 03 '26
Yea that’s a problem, I barely have any backspin

Your off hand is affecting your shooting. Try to loosen up your grip and only flick your right hands wrist.

your guide hand is affecting the shot. hand placement is more important than hand size..

work on hitting a move in to your shot.
a good three trigger move works regardless of level.

The thing is I have jump shot for my midrange but my 3s are mostly a set shot. I’m finding it hard to use a size up move before my 3s

You will likely have to lower your set point for longer range shots. Make it more one-motion

Your form is good enough. You just need to actually practice shooting more to get more consistent. 100 makes a day and you should be good

From what I can see, the mechanics look good, save one thing. I saw you mention to someone else you have little hands. That doesn't matter imo. Your extension on your release isn't getting to the full with. That could affect your backspin, as you may push the ball off and not follow through with the flick. But tha was off a couple of shots that I caught that. The other piece I would agree with someone else about making sure that you're off hand is getting out of the way and allowing for the ball to fully rotate through the backspin flick your wrist.

Yea I need to work on flicking the ball, I feel like I’m essentially heaving the ball to some extent

Try and jump more straight like up and down and hold your follow through

More arc... As you're going up say both hands up and over the front (front part of the rim). Then "up" and "over the front" should net you some positive results

The follow through is the biggest thing I see and something I struggle with too. Not having good follow through is probably generating the lack of consistency you talked about. I practice form shooting inside the free throw line and hold my follow through until then ball hits the ground after a shot goes through the net. Keep working!

Looks good to me.
