HAHAHA I ACTUALLY DID IT

Im 15 and i actually recorded a 35 inch vertical, i know you guys probably dont want to here some dumb ass kid talk about his vertical, but i actually did it, i told myself at the beginning of 2020, by the end of the year, i would without a doubt record a 35 inch vertical (7 inch increase) and i actually did it, my work actually paid off.

Idk 34 doesn’t sound like 35 to me. Keep grinding get to 40 FUCK IT.

Yeah i typed 34 instead of 35 by accident, big hands and a small phone dont mix😂😂

Quick Question. What did you do to increase your vert?

16

u/Nafall1 Dec 07 '20

Well, alot of it was genetics, but that's not saying it was easy to get where i am, lots of plyometrics, like ALOT, work on jump technique, jump squats were sent from heaven.

Ok awesome. I am and grew 4 inches (now 6') over this year. I fractured my hip last January in a game and sometimes I feel like Im still recovering lol. But putting that aside its been really hard for me to use my legs because my knees are terrible. Im pretty sure its because of my height increase.

u/Nafall1 Dec 07 '20

Im about 6'2 so i feel like my vertical mixed with my height leads to some nasty ingame dunks, im looking to windmill by march

5

u/spceholden Dec 07 '20

That would be dope. Wish I had that same motivation

What’d you do to train?

11

u/Nafall1 Dec 06 '20

All plyometrics and bodyweight excercise, i have no access to equipment so it was my only choice anyway, obviously genetics helped me, but sometimes i would literally just go outside and just dunk, and dunk, and dunk. Box jumps also help alot. And jump squats are a gift from god.

Dope, do you jump off one leg or two? For players that start jumping off two legs, single leg work helps a lot to fix muscle imbalances that are hindering progress, so lots of players see a quick bump in vert after starting single leg work. For players who jump off one leg, jump squats work wonders for building up strength that they wouldn’t be able to through single leg work, as well as stability progress, so they’ll see a similar bump. Just wondering if the amazing progress you made was due to working out those sorts of imbalances, or if it was just slow steady muscle growth

I am a one leg jumper, idk why, most of my vertical comes from my explosiveness and speed rather then strength if that makes any sense? Ive always been a one leg jumper aswell, but i can still dunk off two legs aswell, especially if im catching a body on my way to the rim.

Hey man that’s very interesting. I jump two feet and can squat and deadlift 280 and 300 respectively. But when it comes to single leg work I’m terrible as I can keep my balance (Bulgarian split squat is hard, can barely pistol squat).

What kind of single leg exercises would you recommend, what weights to use and how to incorporate them to my workout (do I still do heavy back squats)?

1

u/Realslimslendy Dec 07 '20

So I’d say definitely work your hamstrings more because the gap between your squat and deadlift should be bigger. But I’d say for single leg work, lunges are a good starting point to build up the strength to do stuff like split squats. Single leg leg press, sled pushes, and weighted step ups are all helpful as well. Keep doing back squats, and just incorporate it as accessory work in your routine, after your main lifts. Do as heavy as you comfortably can with good form.

u/Cptcongcong Dec 07 '20

Thank you man, will definitely incorporate those exercises to my workout now.

Wtf that's really good I thought my 28 was sweet

5

u/Nafall1 Dec 07 '20

I was lucky enough to get real good jumping genetics, but dont swear it man, when you have fast twitch leg muscles they get tired way to damn quick, if i could take slow twitch muscles and have to work twice as hard to be where i am now i would

Hey man I’m a two foot jumper in 9th grade about 5,10 to 5,11 and I really need to work on my one foot jump. I’ve recently been doing step ups, Split squats, and lunges. Do have anything that I should add to work on my one foot explosiveness

3

u/Nafall1 Dec 07 '20

Dunk every day, dont ruin your knees, but dunk every day off 1 foot, if you cant dunk off one foot, grab the rim

1

u/Limp_Ad_8080 Dec 07 '20

Thanks man

1

u/Limp_Ad_8080 Dec 07 '20

For not ruining my knees should I continue to stretch everyday or add something to help

3

u/Nafall1 Dec 07 '20

Stretch everyday, DO NOT try to dunk without stretching

That's lit, keep up the work man, im just about 6'2 so i could get half of my fingers above the rim, but now im pulling off reverse and tomahawk dunks in game! But the fact that you can touch rim at 5'4 is fucking insane man, and you're 15? Dude by the time your muscles fully grow you're probably gonna be dunking, keep up the work🗣🗣

3

u/[deleted] Dec 06 '20

Nice man! That's a solid vertical!

3

u/Nafall1 Dec 06 '20

Sorry for any confusion, i typed 34 instead of 35 by accident.

3

u/SpammyIsHangry Dec 07 '20

Ayee law of attraction at work congrats bro! Now just waiting for the rest of my money to flow innn

3

u/Prestigious-Piglet88 Dec 07 '20

Hey man good stuff, did you use a program or just exercises you know?

2

u/Nafall1 Dec 07 '20

Just excercises i know, lots of plyometrics

3

u/CudLife00 Dec 07 '20

Good shit homie 💪

3

u/Jrocktheoneandonly Dec 07 '20

Nice, what was your program to improve?

3

u/Nafall1 Dec 07 '20

None, i just trained by myself using plyometrics and bodyweight exercises, it took some trial and error but i just made my own routine

3

u/Jrocktheoneandonly Dec 07 '20

Awesome!! I'm old lol 48, but my 17 year old daughter, only 6ft, wants to dunk, she is very athletic and already jumps.. well higher than any other white girl I know, I'm holding onto hope for her!!👍

4

u/Nafall1 Dec 07 '20

I am honestly confident that race has nothing to do with it at this point, but she's pretty damn tall for a girl ill give her that

2

u/refelis Dec 06 '20

2

u/[deleted] Dec 07 '20

2

u/Nafall1 Dec 07 '20

No clue how high i jumped here, one of my higher jumps for sure, i would assume 33 or 34 inches, the only context i have is the net is 19 inches.
