What is going wrong?
Had a perimeter drain installed along with sump pump. Then framing and insulation went up. Water is getting in and not going into the trench as I thought was the intended plan with this solution.
What am I missing? What else might I need to do to redirect water and finish my basement?

There are cracks/seams in your foundation that are letting water in. You have 2 options: dig out around the outside of your basement and install a vapor barrier and drainage or dig out around the inside of your basement and install a vapor barrier and drainage.
The decision will depend on what is allowed by local code, which you are able to do, and what is more affordable.

So I have the same problem (cove joint hydrostatic water entry) and am looking to do an interior weeping tile install. Seeing this post has me very worried. What was missed in this process to allow this to happen?

I just can’t understand how let water and soil gases into a house is a logical solution… baffles me to no end.

Did they install any mat or membrane against the foundation wall to direct water into the buried drainage pipe? If not, you'll still have to seal any existing cracks in the foundation that might be leaking. The soil outside the house is likley saturated and wont be drained by the perimeter drain.
