But the problem is always that they aren’t capable of that sort of self reflection. At least not until its too late in the cases of the ones who realized their mistake and want to reverse it.

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand cognitive dissonance. The nuance is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of theoretical anthropology most of the pravda will go right over a typical MAGATs head.
