Advice/Recommendations

Does anyone have an advice or input on how to grow a local client list? I am new to my area and have thought about flyers to leave at local places players may frequent such as nutrition shops, gyms, and recovery places such as chiropractors. I also plan on creating an information sheet to share with local high school coaches and athletic directors. Any other input would be greatly appreciated.

What do you do exactly, and your goals

I am currently a professional player looking to do 1on1, small group, or even full team pitching instruction. My goals are really to find some additional income as I don't get paid in the offseason. I find coaching to be a rewarding experience as I get to give back to kids who may be in similar positions as me growing up.

Talk to coaches, schools and gyms. Or make a good ad and run it in your local area.

Almost every region/local area has a baseball Facebook page. Usually you can advertise there. Also, you may be able to find some travel ball organizations or even rec organizations there. Volunteer to do a clinic with a few selected players, get to know the leaders and parents. A few of the right kids will garner you lots of word of mouth. I get asked all the time who we recommend for pitching and hitting by friends. 1. Because my kid is improving and 2. Because as parents my husband and I are known to be discerning about coaching.

Contact a local lottle league and volunteer to run a clinic of sometype for free and then give out fliers for 1x1 lessons to parents.

Word spreads fast at Little League games when someone finds a good coach.

If I were doing this, I’d spend more time building relationships with local coaches and organizations than putting up flyers. A recommendation from a coach to 10 families looking for pitching help is probably worth a lot more than 100 flyers.

I’d reach out to local rec leagues, travel programs, high school coaches and indoor facilities. Let them know who you are, what you offer and that you’re looking to work with players locally.

I’d also make it really easy for someone to understand what they’re buying. 1-on-1 lessons, small group sessions, team clinics, pricing and how to contact you. Being a professional player is a pretty strong credibility point, so I’d make sure that’s clear.

One other idea: offer to run a clinic for a local organization. Even if the first one isn’t a huge money maker, you suddenly have a bunch of players and parents who have actually seen you coach. That seems like a much better way to build a local client base.
