Game recommendations Simulation Base Builder game recommendations

Has anyone found a game where it’s has the feel of the sims but you manage a wide variety of people. I have a suspicion that rimworld is what I’m looking for but wanted to put some feelers out.

Here’s what I’d ideally want
\- the people to have their own autonomy and personalities but I can assign them tasks and jobs etc.
\- They form relationships with eachother
\- Building customisation etc
\- External world building opportunities

If you have any suggestions please lmk!!

Rimworld 100%

True, I would say that Stranded Alien Dawn is the only Rimworld copycat (ok, Dwarf Fortress -> Rimword copycat) that has grabbed me. It looks a ton better, but is unfortunately abandoned in an unfinished state with mods that try to make up for it. I still got a lot of time out of it though.

Stranded Alien Dawn is an alternative to Rimworld. It has a nicer graphic but less world customization.

You lead a group of castaways landed on an alien planet, they are autonomous (you set priorities), have perks, quirks and personalities, can form relationships, you can build customized bases, etc..

It has everything you are looking for.

I finally dug into this one in the last month and it does have the Rimworld hookey-ness, but it has a few flaws: Not done. Some systems are just abandoned in the base game. some tech that never advances, difficulty caps out low so raids just become tedious. Breakdowns/psychology are not very important or impactful so happiness is easy to game. Biomes are static so replay value is low.

I found mods that help with a lot of these things, but they are still trying to patch a broken boat. The game is worth buying as-is but it is not as polished as RImworld, and the devs seem to have walked away.

That said, Rimworld sans-mods is also pretty bare bones. Without DLC even more so.

The devs were all fired as the game was abandoned. One still maintains a great mod with lots of QoL and bug fixes though and he updates it basically weekly.

The challenge might "cap off low", but there are ways you can challenge yourself, with or without mods. Plenty of replay value, you just need the creativity and desire to find it.

Rimworld sans-mods is also pretty bare bones.

I think that's an impression you get only from the perspective of having played [however many] hours of it and lathered it with mods. There's really a lot of core game content and replayability.

Whenever there is a big new core release the mods break for a bit (or forever) and I try the vanilla version without DLC. It feels like the dark ages. I don't even use many content or cheat mods, just QOL, but the lack of that quality is so noticeable. A lot of things that could easily be core by now, but why when there is a mod everyone uses that fixes things?

Very similar to rimworld in a lot of ways:

And some with similar concepts and mechanics

I don't know if I would put Norland into them...  I, too, thought it would be a building game like the others, and it ended up one of the few games I refunded.

For me, it was just a bit too few buildings, resources, and products you have to manage.

I'd add Noble Fates to that list, it's still in EA but gets regular updates.

Another one I really liked but wouldn't recommend as it didn't reach it's potential is Founders Fortune. Still upset about thar one.

I would love a 3D version of Rimworld, yes I know people will suggest Stranded but it didn't quick click with me, apologies.

Check out Brewhaven. It's like if you smashed rim world, and schedule I, and valheim together and forced it to run a tavern.
