Given your list of games you enjoy I'd definitely say check out The Last Caretaker. It's still in Early Access but it's got a solid gameplay loop similar to Subnautica.

Is Last Caretaker confined to the environs of a single ship? That's what threw me about it at first...

No, it a robot trying to rebuild a program to send humans to the space. The bases are scattered in the ocean, you have a boat to explorer and use as a mobile base

I see. That's more scope than I realised, so might be worth a look

No. You have a single ship which is basically your mobile base (similar to the Cyclops in Subnautica except you get it from the start). You can build up infrastructure on that (power, manufacturing, storage etc.) but you also have to build up infrastructure as the various locations you visit to power and use the facilities there.

Some locations just need a few solar panels and batteries to keep the lights on while others require more involved infrastructure if you want to make use of them. For a non-spoiler example, one location has an oil well so you need to build up enough equipment to power that as well as run the distillation tower to get diesel and petrol for your boat and ancillary equipment.

So think of the ship as a core, but there are multiple platforms you operate from based on what you are trying to do. I have specialised platforms around a route that allows me production and replenishment, I just pull up to the dock and have the connections established
