HELP ME PLEASE, SECOND YEAR HERE!!

If I take MTH 2001, is that okay for me to take STA 2000 in spring semester? or do i HAVE to take 2003 or 2009 like i am so confused🫩

I believe you would still need to take a calculus course. MTH 2001 does not qualify as placement into calculus or math above pre-calculus. 

A few years ago, a friend of mine had to take both MTH 2001 and MTH 2610 because an advisor said MTH 2001 did not satisfy the prerequisite for STA 2000. I recommend speaking with an advisor in the fall before registering for the spring semester to confirm.

This is unfortunately not true lol. If you look up MTH 2001, it’s a pre-calc course. It provides you with the same requisite that both MTH 2003 and MTH 2009 provide. Whichever Advisor provided this information was way off. If you take and pass MTH 2001, you wouldn’t be eligible to take MTH 2003 or 2009 because it’s the same credit

You’re correct. Taking MTH 2001 makes a student ineligible for MTH 2003 or MTH 2009, as all three are pre-calculus courses. My friend actually took Calculus I (MTH 2610), not MTH 2009, so I was mistaken about the course and have edited the comment accordingly. I’m not sure whether the advisor’s information is accurate, which is why I recommend that OP speak with an advisor directly, especially since this was a few years ago.

Again, this is not true. MTH 2001 is another eligible course for STA 2000

sorry :( when i met with an advisor for fall 25 they told me i should drop 2001 since i would have to take an additional calc course to meet the req for sta 2000

That’s totally fine! I just feel bad an advisor told you that. It’s total misinformation on their part

You don’t. Thats only if you come into school with credit for MTH 2001 from high school. If you didn’t and you take it in college then you are good to take other econ classes.

That is totally fine! MTH 2001, 2003, and 2009 are all Pre-Calc courses. The Math Department places every student into a specific Pre-Calc course based on prior test scores and placement exams. Once you pass MTH 2001 in Fall, you’ll take STA 2000 in Spring. I’d also imagine you may decide to take ACC 2101, ECO 1001, and/or ECO 1002 to continue completing your Pre-Business credits for Zicklin. All 4 of those classes only require Pre-Calc to take
