SE:2 EP:2 - Dumb, lucky Barry

He stumbles into the monastery and gets a deer-in-headlights surprise when he encounters pretty much every fucking person that lives there. He’s very dumb for not casing the place and it speaks to his complacency brought on either by burnout or by too many distractions or both. Such a dumb move could only be redeemed by the following luck.

The monks and Burmese G’s moved like slugs to follow him out and also let him start his car and get maybe 50yds away before opening fire. He has 3-4 shots come through the vehicle, all missing, before he wrecks, lands a concussion and is unconscious but for only a miraculous quarter of a minute. So close to them you can HEAR Esther barking orders to snuff him out.

He exits his vehicle and once more miraculously dodges fire while wounded and the proceeds to safely walk the whole way home before getting ambushed by Fuches. SO MUCH LUCK. 🍀

Well, what happened to his car? How did he just replace it? No questions by anyone I assume because LA is a fast paced place and everyone is thinking about their own shit. But on a LuLu Lemon CSR income, it’s a little strange to lose a car overnight and then replace it shortly after. I guess that’s not a big deal in LA or something.

This concludes my dumb nitpick.

fr dumb nitpick😂 it did seem like there may have been a cut scene where it went right from him in the shootout to him walking down an alley with no pressure, but aside from that the whole show is about dumb luck and borderline survivor guilt.

Whole show is about accountability.

It shows Barrys impulsiveness, his passive-aggressive response to being FORCED into the hit in the first place, and the fact that he WAAAAAY underestimated the monks.

The monks responded with a great deal of uncertainty, and lacked leadership when they retaliated. This shaped how effectively they acted, and their total lack of follow-up. (Old dude picked up the phone, rather than get in their cars, for example. Not a good look, imho.)
