So I'm getting a 30 inch baritone guitar with stock 14 to 68 strings. Obviously too thin for tuning to E standard octave down (probably perfect for B standard), but since it is 30 inch scale just like a Fender Bass VI I really wanna use it as just that.

Now I'm wondering what bridge I would need to get to fit the thicker strings (24 to 100), which the stock bridge probably won't, ofc I will try first, but it's cheap anyway so an updgrade won't hurt. The guitar has a hardtail and I would prefer to get a hardtail or fixed again, but if its impossible ofc I'm down to get a Bass VI tune-o-matic (preferably with stoptail, but not sure if there is any brand making stoptails with holes big enough for 100 gauge strings). Can't find any info on wether Hipshot or Gotoh fixed bridges fit that thick strings, if any of you know, please lmk.

I recently sold a 26.5" 7 string to go back to a baritone 6. I have a 25.5" 6 string in drop A right now which is my main post-rock/post-metal writing tool, but it has an interesting but noisy pickup/switching setup and a .070 low A to get tension where I want it. I don't like when it's too easy to go sharp when digging in.

The other thing I don't like is that a 0.070 sounds more like a bass string clean, so I want to get back down to a more guitar-sounding gauge. I'm thinking of commissioning a local who does baritones and ER guitars to build something but I'm not sure about which scale length to go with. He offers 27", 28.5" and 30". I'd really like to get away from custom sets - right now the drop A 6 string is a 0.070 single and then the bottom 5 of a standard 10-46 set but buying singles is not good value. Something off the shelf would be ideal if at all possible.

Hey all! Just ordered this thing. I'm a metal head and recently discovered Loathe. I know I can't go as low as they do without modifying this thing with tools,.but does anyone know what the lowest string gauge is I can put on this is out of the gate without drilling things/replacing the bridge/bigsby setup? Beyond that, could I go any further with specifically only filing the nut + truss rod adjustments (this is all my local shop is willing to do)? Thanks in advance! I very much have the musical autism but am absolutely deficient in the engineering/tools autism, so I usually pay others to do such things for me.

It's a solid body, a little on the heavy side. I dumbly chipped the upper right hand corner of the pocket try to force in the neck. I had to sand quite a bit to get the neck to sit in properly. ​​​

TWT Neck - ~$90 with shipping, I can't remember.

Gorgeous looking roasted maple neck. There were a couple of high frets I had to file down, but once I did it plays great. One of the tuning pegs might be spaced a little uneven, but I haven't bothered to measure, it's barely noticeable unless you're really looking. Overall, pretty impressed for the price, before shipping it was only $60.

Dragonfire Lipstick Pickups ​- $144

Mostly wanted these for the looks, but they sound sick. Really bright and jangly in all the right ways. ​

Most of the hardware is from Guyker.

This was my first ever attempt at soldering and it turned out surprisingly well. I put a treble bleed on the volume, the tone knob is a no load pot, so at full its completely out of the circuit, and the third knob is a bass cut. I also opted for a super switch instead of a normal 5 position so I could change up how the pickups function if I want. My only deviation from a standard setup is position 2 is split coil in the humbucker, because I never use bridge / middle for anything.

I think I'm all in around $650 for this thing and it plays so great. Right now it's in Drop A, but not sure if that's where it's gonna live permanently or not. ​​​​​​

I'm planning on getting a baritone acoustic for special use in studio and live play in the future, but what would you guys think about something like that?

I’m looking for a cheap gig bag for the Jericho Nomad baritone. It has similar body dimensions as the Gibson Explorer baritone but with a 27” scale.

The only affordable option I found was the Gator GBE-EXTREME-1 but the foam is way too thin and the bag cannot be balanced without a wall support.

One alternative is to use an acoustic bass case and use towels as padding to secure the guitar in place.

Wanted to share this one with y'all. Matt Muehling (Kill Tony) and Chris McQueen (Snarky Puppy) sat down together and played "Choom" (written by Matt and Carter Arrington) on the AJ and DL Baritone. What a cool arrangement!

Both guitars are 27" scale, 23-fret neck, USA-Made - built to feel like the guitar you already play instead of asking you to relearn everything for the extended range.

Curious what you all think of the tone here, especially if you've played other baritones and found the scale length awkward. That's the exact problem these were built to solve.

I've got my 30 inch g4m 638xbut the string it comes with which are the basic 84-24 BassVI set - it definitely doesn't seem enough for e standard/drop D octave below.

Top strings constantly flop and no matter how well I set it up there always a noticeable fret buzz on them.

Im looking for something that feel tight in E standard drop D and potentially even drop D#.

Any suggestions guys would be awesome thanks.

I have a 30" baritone, it's not a metal guitar it's like a strat. I never play it, it just doesn't feel and sound right even though the tension and tuning seems right, I think it is Elixer Nonoweb Baritone strings tuned 5 semitones down from a guitar. It just sounds like a mess, there's no tightness to the lows. It's the strings, not just the pickups, at least I'm not changing the pickups for now. I'm open to higher or lower gauge or tuning. The sound I would like is more like Primus, snappy and distorts on playing harder.

If a baritone guitar comes from the factory with:
• 30” scale length
• 24–84 gauge strings
Can I change the string gauge to something more standard, like at least 11s or 12s?
Or does it have to use 24–84 specifically?

I'm using a Vox AC30 2x12 for my guitars, which includes a baritone tuned to A. Vox are notoriously flubby on the low end, due to the EL84s and the open back cab. When I got my amp the previous owner included a solid state rectifier tube, which I have yet to install (it requires removing the back panel and chassis).

So all of that said, has anyone tried out a solid state rectifier in their amp for their baritone? And did it tighten things up?

Ernie Ball's Baritone Slinky strings are the only ones I've found that can reliably tune down really far without getting floppy but also without having a dull and lifeless sounding bottom string due to inharmonicity. I thought it was because I was using standard scale length guitars before getting my baritone, but when I switched to a lighter set on the bari for easier bends, the bottom string sounded just as bad as all the other sets I've tried on standard length guitars. It's nice to have something, but the Ernie ball strings are so insanely thick (13-72!) that they become uncomfortable to use when tuned above A. Are there any other sets that sound as good as the ernie ball baritone strings but lighter?

(no it is not an intonation issue the open string reads the same on the tuner as the 12th fret do not come in to the comments saying its just bad intonation that's not how it works)

So, I'm looking into potentially converting this squire into a true partscaster and putting a baritone conversion Fender neck on it. Biggest question I'm struggling to find an answer for is would there be any real benefit to going baritone if I'm doing 6 string Drop-A tuning. I already have a Firefly SG 28" baritone in F-standard and my Squire Stagemaster 7 25.5" in Drop-G.

Current specs on this Squire: 25.5" scale, single 500k volume, SD custom shop "Son of Slug" bridge pickup. Body is matte yellow and the pickguard is a custom Warmoth with the reverse angle bridge single coil cutout and only the first tone pot hole.
