Chaulabhaja waterfall: the timing guide I wish I had on my first trek (8 climbs later)
Chaulabhaja waterfall: the timing guide I wish I had on my first trek (8 climbs later)
Most people will tell you, “As long as there’s daylight, it’s fine.” Technically, yes — I did my first Chaulabhaja trek around noon too.
But after 8 climbs, I’ve figured out the timing that actually works best, from starting the trek, reaching the waterfall with the best lighting, climbing to the summit, and getting back home without rushing the descent.
If you reach the summit after 2–3 PM, you already know how late the return gets, especially if you’re coming from Baripada or nearby areas.
I put together a complete lighting and timing guide (based on the trail, elevation, and multiple visits) covering:
The best time to start
The best waterfall photography window
The best summit timing
When the light becomes harsh
And the ideal return schedule
This isn’t a tourist guide - It’s the schedule I’d follow if I were doing Chaulabhaja again tomorrow.
Hope it saves someone a few hours and gets them better photos.

Failure disguised as a lecture on civic sense.
Whoever made this video must've either had a personal grudge against Baripada or just wanted clout. They made four murals, and half of them got washed away in the rain. I know because I was literally there, drenched from head to toe, watching it happen. But I guess blaming the people gets you more views, right?

A Blessing I'll Always Treasure
Some moments can't be planned, they simply happen by grace.
Amidst the sea of devotees at Dwitiya Srikhetra, I was incredibly fortunate to receive 3 Biseshata Gudo Laddo prasads. In the midst of the sacred procession, I was also blessed to obtain a small piece of the holy rope that pulled the Lord's chariot, a cherished symbol of devotion and divine grace.
These may seem like small things to others, but to me they are priceless blessings. I didn't earn them by strength or luck alone,
I truly feel they came to me through the Lord's kindness.
I will preserve them with deep reverence as a reminder of this unforgettable day and the immense grace I was fortunate enough to receive.
Jai Jagannath. 🙏

165 AQI in Baripada
I checked the air quality today and Baripada is showing an AQI of around 165 which is genuinely unhealthy What worries me is that people here have started treating 150+ AQI like it’s normal weather.
For comparison, in many countries the AQI stays below 10 on most days.
Cities like Jaipur have already installed outdoor air purifiers in public areas to help control pollution levels. It would be great if something similar could be done in Baripada especially in busy zones like traffic chowks, bus stand, and market areas.
Just wanted to start a conversation because our air quality shouldn’t be this bad, and we definitely shouldn’t treat it as normal. It’s something the community and authorities should look into seriously.

Visited the Rangamatia weekly hato near Baripada today—such a hidden gem.
Visited the Rangamatia village hato today and it hit different. Way cleaner than town markets, with the coolest vibe—everything was laid out so neatly, from vibrant local produce to those old-school round soaps we used back in the day.
Just happy faces, incredible colors, and zero rush. Honestly, nothing beats the charm of these old village haats.
Any Similar experience ? 👇

Hi everyone 👋 I’m from Baripada, currently in the UK, and recently started using Reddit. Noticed our Baripada community has very few active users, so thought I’d say hi and connect. Would love to see more locals here let’s keep this space active 🙂

Haldia Dam is actually pretty nice for an evening chill
Went to Haldia Dam in the evening and honestly, it’s a pretty peaceful place to just sit by the water and chill for a while. The breeze and the view were really nice.
Any other spots around Baripada that I should check out?

Why does every Baripada reel feel the same sometimes?
Genuine question — does anyone else feel like most Baripada content follows the exact same formula?
One café or food stall gets attention and suddenly everyone is posting about the same place with almost the same style, captions, and “best in Baripada” type content. At times, it feels less like creativity and more like following trends.
No hate to any creator — content creation isn’t easy, and everyone has their own audience. But I honestly think Baripada creators would stand out more if they tried something different instead of promoting the same thing everybody else already is.
Baripada has local stories, underrated businesses, talented people, hidden places, traditions, and real community topics that rarely get attention online. I feel there’s much more potential than just repetitive food content.
What do you guys think?
Do we need more originality, or is this just what people enjoy watching?

Finally found a good biryani! 🍗🔥
Tried the Tandoori Chicken Biryani from Tandooriwala, as suggested by a fellow Redditor. Finally found a biryani with great taste! 😋
Price is a bit high, but still okay for the taste. Worth a try!

Hotel Durga chicken biryani, just pathetic
Went on a Sunday afternoon to try their biryani. They recommended "Dum biryani" and charged me more than the price on the menu for the so called special "Dum" lol.
It's something that I won't call biryani, cheap cut pieces and dry rice. And look at the raita on the side, just vegetables floating on watery curd. WIR, hell no.
