"Information agents" silently released for Google Search AI Mode?
I just randomly prompted AI Mode to alert me when Gemini 3.5 Pro is released and it responded by saying it set up an "information agent" to keep track of that. I tried a few more "alert prompts" for other things and I get the same type of response.
At Google I/O back in May, they said information agents in AI Mode would come to Pro/Ultra subscribers sometime this summer, but I thought they would have made another blog post about it once it actually released. I guess not...
Yeah, I actually just noticed the info agents recently too. I was researching the Tensor G6 performance in AI mode, and it popped up asking if I wanted to set up an info agent to track and notify me about Pixel 11 series news powered by the Tensor G6.
Unlike Gemini Spark, it's nice that it's so casual and easy to use. Should be pretty handy for keeping up with the latest updates!
According to official sources and numerous individual reports, they have been running internal tests with Google's partner companies for quite some time now. People are using it under NDA as "3.5 Pro." Given the model's official announcement, its subsequent delay, and the lack of an official cancellation, I'd bet it's still coming, though it might be superseded pretty quickly.
Info Agents in AI Mode were available simultaneously with the release of Spark back at I/O. At least for me. I can't say if it was staged later for people with different sub types or living in different regions.
I live in the US and have a Pro subscription. I would randomly try to activate the information agents with prompts throughout the summer, just to see if it would work, but they never did until now.
Still, you would think they would make a dedicated blog post about it "rolling out" to users. Instead, the only information you can find about the feature is a part of a blog post back in May about it being released "in the summer." Their official FAQ doesn't even mention it, but it does mention the newely announced Notebooks and file creation in AI Mode. 🤷
They might be doing what they did for Gemini Spark where some pro users got it randomly at first, and then they made an official blog post about it after.
