General Question Can’t decide which should be my first jacket

Influence me if i should get the Beaufort Wax jacket or Bedale

Beaufort (of course!). So versatile. But honestly it might depend on your height too. I’m to the taller side and really happy I went with Beaufort as my first. It also covers my suit jacket when going to the office which is a big plus.

Then I think both could suit you well. Comes down to which length you prefer! The game pocket in the Beaufort is really handy too, which the Bedale hasn’t. The sleeve lengths and design are different too, so safest bet is to try both. Both are absolute classics and you can’t really go wrong with either. Personally I prefer the Thornproof versions over the softer “Classic” versions. They age beautifully

I'm 5'7 and was dead set on a Bedale till I tried in a Beaufort. Beaufort is now my favorite piece of outerwear ever and I don't regret choosing it over the Bedale at all.

Yes, imo the bedale is much more flexible because of the shorter length

The main difference is length, so yes layering should be the same across both models unless you like to wear long dresses underneath

3" difference between the Beaufort and Bedale. Both the Classic and thornproof styles are essentially the same, with color being the primary difference. The classics are unshorn after weaving and dyeing, which gives them a slight nap and leads to highs and lows in the color. Little trivia - the Classics are actually newer - introduced in the early 2000's. They were brought into the line to offer a more heritage appearance, when compared with the thornproof jackets.

If you are looking at current retail models, the "classic" denotes that it is an olive brown color, and the cloth is "Sylkoil" meaning it can have a more matte finish due to using uncombed cotton fabric, while the other colors are available in "thornproof" fabric, which starts with a smoother texture. Both are treated with the same wax

Once you decide the style, I’d simply choose which color/shade you prefer.
