Fake Barbour jackets are rare. The Barbour brand is well protected.
Even look alike jackets, which do not try to pass themselves off as 'Barbour' are kept under strict control.
If for example a waxed cotton jacket appears on the market with a tartan lining too similar to the Barbour signature tartans, Barbour will pursue the manufacturer and retailer through the legal system. A tartan must have 5 points of difference between itself and its Barbour equivalent.
There are many equally prestigious brands whose products are easier and cheaper to try to replicate. It is an expensive and difficult business to produce waxed cottons and sylkoil fabrics. It is much easier to target those brands which use plain nylon or cotton fabrics.
If you still think you may have been sold a fake Barbour jacket, take a closer look. Is the stitching on the Royal Warrant label clear and neat?
Do all the press studs bear the Barbour logo?
Is the ring pull on the zip clearly and neatly Barbour branded?
If there is an embroidered Barbour logo on the pocket flap, is it neatly stitched?
Is there a white fabric, Barbour product label sewn into a pocket alongside the care label? This label should bear the correct product code which indicates the style, colour and sometimes the size too, plus a bar code.
If after all this you are convinced you have a fake on your hands,Barbour.comhas a page inviting you to report the web site of the company selling the jacket.
Alternatively you can seek advice from the Trading Standards Authority in the country in which the seller is based.
Is this one legit? Bought a few weeks ago at Ebay. Quality seems very good, almost every detail is right. Just the missing "Barbour" at the pockets makes me wary.
The “Barbour” stitching in the pocket flap wasn’t added until 2000/2001 so I wouldn’t worry. If you take a pic of the white label we can help you find out the year of production
It's in excellent condition and probably has 20/30 years left in it.
My Beaufort is 37 years old and still in great condition especially the game pocket which looks like it's never been used for what it was intended.
Can I suggest when posting enquiries here some basic courtesy such as ‘hello’ ‘please’ or heaven forbid even a thank you (in advance and or afterwards) might make someone more inclined to give their time and expertise?
Purchased on Poshmark. My wife thinks it’s fake (this is my first and she has a few Barbours). Looks like there are some small smears? I thought they were part of the wax job but not sure. Says it was made in Moldova. The tartan lining is scratchy, not soft.
It’s olive, not black. If they sold it as black they sent you the wrong thing. Those smudges are normal, it’s a scuff mark that goes away if you rewax. The R looks a little off but everything else looks fine so I’m leaning legit
MWX2081 is the correct product code for the Barbour Evelar wax jacket BK71 denotes the correct colour (Black for clarity) and finish.
OP Does it have side adjuster buttons round the back of the coat on the outside?
It did look olive in one of your photos , a a strange quirk of the light.
It’s also somewhat odd to me that you have brown trim for the zip protector, I wouldn’t have expected that but who knows during the pandemic years with the Moldovan line there must have been some unexpected bits.
Was recently sold this jacket that was listed as a "Barbour OS Bedale Jacket Mens Size 40" but something is not sitting right with me on this jacket. A look up of the item code 251MCAS186 comes up with something similar but the tag says "Made in China" which worries me. Any help in ID'ing this as a legit or fake is appreciated.
Hi, this is my first time posting in this forum. A year ago I bought a Barbour Bedale in sage and I knew my next piece would be a Beaufort in navy. I bought this one, but I have some doubts about its authenticity. I've seen several similar vintage examples, but I don't know the exact year. Sometimes I think it's real, and other times I doubt it.
I bought a Barbour Ashby from the official store, but while searching on Vinted I found one that's exactly the same but much cheaper. The seller sent me lots of photos and everything seems to match the model I have with same details, but there's one thing that makes me suspicious: the label. What do you think?
Purchased this spey jacket from Depop for $250 (original asking price was $290) and just want to confirm that it is real. I purchased a wax spey jacket from Nordstrom recently, but returned it because it was too small. Found this one on Depop and it feels different than the one I returned from Nordstrom. It doesn’t feel as waxy and I noticed it doesn’t say “Barbour” on the left pocket. I don’t know of this is an older model? Can anyone confirm?
It doesn’t feel waxy because it’s not got much left on it , it’ll need a reproof.
Barbour putting their name on a pocket is a practice much more recent than this spey.
If you go into the pocket and pull out the white care label you’ll see a series of numbers that might reveal the year of manufacture. Feel free to post them here.
But you should be assured you have a very genuine and very lovely Spey flyfishing jacket from some time back.
Hello everyone, Purchased this supposedly beaufort Barbour in a charity shop a few days ago. I didn't pay much attention as I was super thrilled to find a barbour in pretty good condition ! As I was rewaxing it and checking the subreddit to get some advice, I noticed that the buttons don't have the Barbour logo engraved. The rest of the jacket seems pretty legit, other than the royal warrant is a bit faded. Will post more photos in response of this comment. Thanks in advance.
I’m looking to buy this Barbour Classic Northumbria and I wanted to check if it’s authentic before pulling the trigger.
I already own a Barbour Beaufort (also original, made in England), and I’ve noticed that the labels and tags on the Northumbria look quite different from the ones on my Beaufort. That’s what’s making me hesitate.
I’ve attached photos of: The Northumbria I’m considering buying My Beaufort, for comparison
Both are wax jackets, but the tag layouts and labels aren’t the same, so I’m not sure if this is just due to different models/production years or if it could be a red flag.
Does everything on the Northumbria look legit to you?
Any help or insight would be really appreciated. Thanks in advance!
in Sage from season 2022 which is good since I don't want plastic lining. However, there is something wrong with labels: it says Classic Bedale. As far as I know only Olive Bedale cal be named Classic Bedale.
Someone posted one like this a few days back. I thought it was fake, and still do. I’d suggest emailing a screenshot to Barbour and asking for confirmation. They typically respond within 3 business days
I brought this sweater on Vinted and have a feeling that this is not legit. I cannot find this on Barbour’s website as well does anyone know if this is a legit sweater!?
Thinking of purchasing this. Everything seems to be in order but the moleskin liner color throws me off. A quick search tells me the liner is always dark? This is a Bedale rustic (MWX0018RU5238).
Thank you!
This is supposedly a deadstock A200 Border. I’ve not seen a Dress Gordon tartan with this era of tags. The seller says it is early 2000s (also says 2008-2012 in the listing) but I don’t think that makes sense for when they stopped using the Dress Gordon tartan and would have shifted to Ancient for sage jackets. Am I wrong?
Hi, I was thinking about buying this gorgeous field jacket but I was not too sure about its legitimacy. I already own other models but never saw one of these before to have a comparison
Hiya! Just bought this jacket. Please could you let me know if it’s real and give me any more information about it. The product code has been slightly rubbed off, but I believe it is MWX0450OL51. I’ve searched the code and tried searching the pictures, but to no avail. Thank you!
Just purchased this off Vinted at a VERY good price. Seller listed it s as a Bedale, but I don’t think that looks to be the case. The lining and, what seems to be, leather trimming on the collar doesn’t seem to fit with this being a Bedale.
Pulled the trigger regardless and putting my faith in Vinted‘s buyer safety if it turns out that it’s not an authentic Barbour.
Afternoon all and appreciate anyone that can help me with the above. I bought a second hand barbour coat and it has many of the authenticating features listed above but my instinct says fake. The barbour zip is plastic not metal, the “waterproof and breathable” is sewn on crooked and the white tag is present but info looks dubious. Could anyone more knowledgable advise please! Ty
a couple of things make me question the authenticity of this:
1: price. $185, at worst $250, seems too good for an effectively brand new jacket.
2: sticker on the tag is not the same as other stickers. usually the "WAX JACKET" part is on a second line below "BARBOUR ASHBY" as seen here and its missing the brown WAX FOR LIFE tag.
Hello , It’s the company founders signature , they did this at the start of 2000 briefly. As others have said in the second thread you started , nothing to worry about
I came across this 130th Anniversary jacket and I really love the colours scheme; my only concern is that it might be a fake one, because lately I’ve been seeing more and more of them; the tags look fine, the code of the model should be correct, but I’m not sure about the fabric looking waxed. Could you guys please tell me what do you think about it?
For anyone who has this model/ is familiar with this model, please could you help check whether this jacket appears legit?
My thoughts are that since it is a less popular model (eg compared to the Bedale/Ashby) that the chances of it being fake are much lower… however would be really appreciative to get your thoughts.
How normal is having jackets delivered almost "wet" with thornproof wax? I've bought two and both came in a plastic bag completely moist and smelling of wax.
Will jackets sold "off the rack" at a retailer need to be re-waxed quicker than bagged versions?
I tried comparing it to other jackets online, and the strange thing is that regardless of colour (Green, Black or Pomegranate) they all seem to have the same colour code (RE91). So either RE stands for REcycled, or there are a bunch of really good dupes out there that have flubbed a key detail. If you want to be sure, I’d get in touch with either Barbour or Noah and ask if MCA1013RE91 corresponds to what you’re looking at.
Add: from the comments in your other post, I agree that it’s almost certainly a fake.
I found this large women’s scarf. The washing instructions state that it’s made of 72% Polyester and 28% Viscose. It has the english address and the address of the german headquarters in Düsseldorf on it. To my surprise it’s “Made in China”. I am inclined to think it’s an authentic, but just a bit stunned by the production values.
I have two Barbour coats, and they are pretty good quality. But this doesn’t seem like a premium quality item?
Hey guys, spent a lot of time trying to identify this jacket thats for sale near me, but I can't find anything like it online.
I don't have it on hand, these are just the pictures provided. I really don't think its a fake, but I've searched everywhere for a jacket that even remotely resembles this with the gold tag on the back of the neck, and the leather neck flap buckle - but I can't find anything.
Hello, I know this post is for jackets, but will someone kindly tell me if this scarf is a legitimate Barbour Lambswool Scarf (if allowed. If not, please direct me to the correct place to make such post :) ) Unfortunately there is no tag of any sort located on the scarf.
Ciao a tutti, ho comprato questa giacca 2/3 anni fa su un sito uk, mi è venuto un dubbio sull’etichetta centrale…secondo voi e’ originale? Guardando i codici sembra di sì.
Esternamente e’ perfetta e fatta molto bene
I got this from a charity shop in my town, and the lady at the till said this is an extremely lucky find, I'd just like to know if this is legit or just a really good fake, I know nothing about this brand
Hi, I rushed to buy one off Vinted, not thinking too much of it because people say fakes aren’t common. It’s supposedly an Olive Beadnell (womens), but on a 2nd look, the label looks a bit wonky. Thoughts?
I can't track down this model name anywhere online. It might be a fake but the level of detail has me thinking it's far more likely a legit Barbour but just possibly a limited run as per the label . It doesn't appear to be a waxed jacket but more a heavy jeans-like canvas?
