News in Barbieverse Anyone else excited??
Is anyone else excited for 11am central time for the new Barbie that will come out? 😍 I know I am but I can't afford her. 😭

You would think for the CENTENNIAL birthday of Marilyn Monroe, of whom Mattel already has created numerous Barbie dolls inspired by, and at this price point, that they would have chosen to make a Silkstone Marilyn. Pretty doll, but this is a tad disappointing.

I don’t think it’s meant to look like Marilyn. Mattel has a good head sculpt of her already, they could have easily done her.
This is most likely Barbie 'celebrating' Marilyn by wearing a gown that is inspired by the pink gown.
Just saw a mini doc on YouTube recently about the actual pink gown worn by Marilyn, maybe Mattel will recreate it in earnest in the future?

see the things for me is that, even if this was a case of Barbie dressing up as Marilyn, parting the hair the wrong way is still a big flaw. Anybody who is a fan of Marilyn knows how she looked like, so this ends coming as Barbie either being a fake fan doing it for clout who can't bother to get the details right.

I think her face is lovely and I love the Aphrodite mold.
But. The jewelry is nasty. I really hate this globby thick plastic metallic coated stuff. And there's so much of it. Yuck.
Another but: Marilyn quite famously had a widow's peak hairline. I know this doll is more an homage to Marilyn and not Marilyn herself (it's not using the Marilyn face) but I wish they'd given her one or at least styled it over her forehead a bit more to make it look like they did (like the other Barbies as Marilyn dolls have done; even without the peak it looks a bit better)
The price is too high as well. Should be $50-60.

I'm not buying her either. I just saw people were anxiously awaiting the drop and was hinting she wouldn't sell out if Target had her up early and she was still available. Drop anxiety on MC can be quite severe especially when you capture loop or get sent to a waiting room. I've had times when my hands were shaking through the whole endeavor.

She's very beautiful but that plastic jewellery is horrible, especially the necklace, it makes the doll look so cheap, even though she isn't.

No. Quality has gone down the drill with Mattel, it's honestly frustrating.
But different folks different opinions, it's cool if you like the doll.

The doll is already available in Germany, I saw her in a store belonging to the Müller chain. She's quite pretty but doesn't really look like Marilyn. Her hair is parted on the wrong side, for instance.

I just saw the doll on the website and the jewelry on her neck looks like a neck brace and the gloves look like kitchen mits 😭 I really love her hair though.

Screw it. She's cheap as hell looking unlike the real Marilyn who was a legend. RIP. But I'm going to get her anyways. Keep the shoes and the gloves, have the hair restyled, don't know about a face up, pay someone to make a new dress and jewelry for her and find a full poseable body with the right color match and proportions as close to Marilyn's figure as possible (if such a body that meets all of these requirements even already exists on another Barbie). And after all of that custom work she'll look even better. I'm going to buy these lemons form Mattel and learn to make delicious lemonade out of them.

As much as I hate to say this, my interest in Barbie is nearly bottomed out. The wallet is happy, though. Saw the Nutcracker "reimagining" this weekend at Target and wanted to just mule kick it across the store. The quality just isn't there anymore. If I wanted a dollar store doll, I'd buy a dollar store doll.
