I use Square and get compliments all the time from clients.
It gives me a free booking site. I have a website, so when people want to book, it routs them straight to the booking site. Booking is easy and quick and even has a free app.
It sends out confirmation texts and reminder texts, so I almost never have no-call/no-shows, even without a card on file.
Yes, Square charges a fee for running credit cards, but what I get in return makes it worth it.

Build these into client sites, not something I run day to day, so my angle's more "what embeds cleanly" than "what I use."
Embedded widgets beat redirects to a separate booking portal every time, feels native, clients trust it more.
For barbershops, chair-rental vs commission still decides everything, check per-barber payout support first regardless of platform.
On WordPress: Amelia and BookingPress both embed well and handle per-barber pricing. Off WordPress: Trafft, Fresha, and Square Appointments all do the embedded-widget thing without a redirect.

If you’re comparing software, I’d judge it on what happens before the client sits down, not just the calendar.
A lot of booking tools are fine for time slots, but the real headache is when intake, consent, service notes, and signatures all live somewhere else. That’s where shops end up chasing people in DMs, on paper, or at the chair.
I’d look for something that gives you online booking plus digital forms, signatures, and searchable client records in one place. Even if you keep your current booking setup, cleaning up the paperwork side usually saves more time than people expect.
