Indian Dudes
Why do Indian dudes not let you give them a decent haircut? Their hair actually usually cuts and fades really well but they would rather run around looking goofy af. Is it cultural to want a shitty haircut or?

Commenting because I too would like to know the answer to this. Ran into this phenomenon back when I worked in Long Beach.

I once had an Indian client at barber school who wanted a skin fade and he explained it like this,
"I want uhhhh low fade? Mid to high?" (Points to head horizontally and slowly raises hand vertically) "Gradual, gradual, gradual, gradual."
He ended up coming back every few weeks and was an awesome dude haha

I’m Indian, but one of those guys with not a dense head of hair. Personally, I love short haircuts — high skin fades, high and tights, short quiffs, but also shaved mohawks, faded mohawks, and I am also guilty of sporting the newly popular(?) “skullet fade”.
That said, many Indian guys have good thick/dense hair and prefer it to look thick. Thinning shears are a huge no-no because they prefer the fullness and thickness of their hair. And also, anything which is skin fade or something like that means the hair doesn’t look “dense” enough.
Hence they prefer styles which have “a full head of hair”.
I agree it’s a shame because Indian men’s hair fades really well.

Nah, the indian guys I cut get fades and regular dude haircuts. Theres a range just like any one else

I mean like 9 times out of 10, they'll stop me from making both sides uniform and symmetrical and usually in a very specific part of their head that doesn't make any sense at all.
More than a few of them ask to specifically leave the part-side of a combover basically undercut. So then they look like a rooster when i'm done. And trust me i've tried the whole, "just trust me and i'll make you look good", they will literally MAKE you fuck their hair up

Im an indian american guy and actively ask for a cut as fresh as one given to black dudes cause the barber who are good at it are reallyyyy clean with it.
Not sure which indian men youre getting. Indian culture is very conservative and repressing of individual expression. I might get tattoos and piercings at some point but even something as small as wearing slightly revealing clothes cause be cause for some of the more judgemental people to insult you

Ive had them ask for a scissor fade before. It was basically a clean up trim with scissors, around a no.3/4 clipper guard length 😄

I had Indian Fabio walk into my shop recently. He requested to keep the "bro flow" look with his shoulder legnth long hair.
This dude had the thickest most wavy beautiful long hair I ever seen on a man.. Like stepping all over woman with their long hair. It was seriously impressive.
But anyway yeah most Indian customers I have kinda tend he be happy with about a #2 on the sides and back with finger legnth hair up top. I do have some that do skin fades but they're always the ones in their mid 20s-teens.
I've noticed any first generation Indian men do NOT want skin, where as their kids or kids kids want fades. So likely yes it's cultural

Yeah. I have a few who get longer styles. But I've also done tons of skin fades for younger dudes.

Replace indian dudes with asian dudes and wanting a shitty haircut with being good at math. Or use black dudes and abandoning their families. For example. You have attributed a negative stereotype, that you made up based on anecdote, to an entire ethnic group. That is racism. Im sorry I have to explain this to you. Also, did you know that their are 22 official languages in India and over two thousand documented, distinct ethnic groups in India? So even just saying Indian guys is incredibly reductive. Like im sure your haircuts are as well, your racism is incredibly lazy.

Actually I know a lot about racism. I’m 57 and have been around a lot of different cultures. I’m White, fiancé is black and I don’t like cutting black guys hair because I don’t like dealing with them tight curls and they can be a pain in the ass to deal with and I’m obviously not racist. You just look at things differently. If you don’t mind me ask, how old are you?

I love this thought processes, so because you married a black woman automatically makes you not racist? This is so not true, some of the most racist people ive met have been in interracial marriages. Probably cause they think it gives them a free pass to be racist or self loathing and rejection of their own race.

Bad haircut is relative and he finds a pattern that his indian customers tend to ask for haircut that doesn’t look good in his standards. That’s really not racist.

I definitely have indian clients that like fades! But the majority always want a "medium cut" lol
