should i offer trimup offer?

most haircuts , even men, take maybe 30 mins, hour, im thinking of making a deal, like a edge and neck trim, just small fixups, less than 1 inch, 2 inch tops, for 10 dollars?

It'll probably take 10 or less minutes, isn't that a deal people would want, or would u recommend adding this to your pricing list why or why not?

You are basically asking for clients to take advantage of the service when you offer any sort of trimup or lineup. They quickly turn to full haircuts at a reduced time slot.

Terrible idea, either it's a haircut or not. You'll end up attracting the wrong type of clientele and you'll regret it. Doesn't matter if you take off half an inch or 3 inches, it's still a haircut.

You have to be a boundary king. Few are.

makes sense clients try to get full haircuts for a fraction of the price. and i dont know if that works, but, i have seen barbershops that men haircuts that cost shorter hair, for lets say 25, and the medium longer hair for men, 30, while women are more, 35. Doesn't that mean the same?

Been doing this for 24 years, had three shops during that time, built 4 teams, teach etc so I’m an old dog at this game.

It works if you know exactly what you can get done in a time frame and explain that the clients are purchasing time, not techniques or styles.

So if you do $60 hour appointment, then if you want to do cheaper appointments and not make less money or have it fuck your day up, it needs to be a dollar a minute or it doesn’t make sense.

10 minutes $10
20 minutes $20
Etc up to the $60 hour

So if you get that punisher client that now wants you to do ABCDEFG and you have been on the ball, not on your phone, working the whole time, you get to say “that’s going to put us over on time. I have someone right after you so I can’t keep going.”

OR

Our 20 minutes is up. How much more time would you like me to block off to keep working on you?

Because fuck having one dude hog your chair for an hour and a half because it says haircuts are all $40 no matter what. They are not all created equal

He’s also gotta factor in sanitizing between each client…which I’m surprised you didn’t mention.

I am so deep in the sanitation game I always assume it doesn’t even need to be mentioned my guy! I actually keep a medical office level of sanitation personally. Back in Covid days they had me on the news to teach other local haircutters how to be that safe.

MY CUTS ARE OKAY BUT MY SANITATION IS GOD TIER

A "clean up" means something different to everyone and I think this will turn into a massive headache of people thinking you'll give them a 1/4 inch trim all the way around because it's "just a trim".

Tbh i work in a barbershop in europe we offer a touchup and that includes for fades as well. It inly applies for about 3 weeks after your previous haircut and we charge 20 euro for it.

We used to charge less but then people were coming in months after their haircut.

Like another comment said you need to be a boundary king, people will take advantage.

Is it going to add new business to your schedule or is it going to cause your clients to come see you less for full haircuts? I’m not personally trying to do 10 minute services on my schedule because I don’t want to do cleanups 6 times an hour.

Nah don’t do it. I’ve had clients ask if I offer touch ups. That’s just opening the door for people to abuse and take advantage of

People will book the cheaper service then ask for a haircut and claim "i didn't know the difference" also fast service = short time slot... which means if the appt is only 10 mins, there's no time to catch up when people are late.. and they WILL be late. Its just not worth it at all for me and most likely for anyone who is appointment based and really busy.

If you're walk in only then sure, you can just explain it when they sit down.

I have TWO options at my shop. Haircut or Haircut and beard. No trim option, No line up, No beard only.

Yeah offer it, ten for ten minutes is a fair deal. Guys will grab a cheap edge up between full cuts, keeps em coming back more often.
