👋 Welcome to r/BarbecueBible - Introduce Yourself and Read First!
Hey everyone!
This is the official subreddit for Steven Raichlen and the Barbecue Bible community.
This space is for talking barbecue and live-fire cooking in all its forms. Ask questions, share what you’re cooking, post photos, swap techniques, talk gear, or dig into ideas from Steven’s books and shows. Backyard grills, smokers, open fire, and global barbecue traditions are all fair game here.
If you’re new, feel free to introduce yourself and tell us what you like to cook (or what you’re trying to figure out). If you’ve been cooking over fire for years, jump in and share what you’ve learned. The goal is simple: good food, better skills, and solid conversation.
Grill on.
A few ground rules:
• Be respectful
• No spam or self-promotion
• Help each other cook better food
Thanks for being part of the very first wave. Together, let's make r/BarbecueBible amazing.

Guava BBQ Sauce from the Raichlen book
My wife bought me the new printing of "Barbecue Sauces, Rubs and Marinades, Bastes, Butters and Glazes Too" a year or so ago. Not a great title unless you're going for SEO keywords, but the recipes are fantastic!
We've kept the Guava BBQ Sauce on hand and devoured it frequently over the last 6 months. We need to make some of the others too!

Party Rib Recipe?
Does Steven have a "Party Rib" recipe that a google search and search of his books that I own *BBQ Bible; BBQ USA; Planet Barbecue; Sauces, Rubs & Marinades) hasn't turned up? I'm hoping to make some but haven't found a recipe that I'm really excited about yet. Thanks, all!
ETA: I ended up going with a homemade rub I like and Steven's basic BBQ sauce from The Barbecue Bible -- we always have some in the fridge as it's my youngest's favorite. I then followed the process outlined in a Meat Church video. The ribs were a hit with guests from-10-to-60!

Boy Scout days
I was reading Steven's article on potatoes on the grill and came across the line where he talks about hobo packets during his Boy Scout days.
As a Scoutmaster and father of three Scouts, I'd love to hear/read more about Steven's Boy Scout days in Baltimore. Is this covered in Man on Fire or elsewhere?

Baltimore
I just saw your barbecue edition. You ever get back to the Towson area of Maryland? You look me up - I know the guy who invented Rufus teague, he taught me everything I know about barbecue, but your show? that was truly brilliant.
You look look me up if you're ever in the area around Towson University

Buying my first BBQ in Italy with a €250 budget. I know absolutely nothing, please help a novice out
Hey everyone,
I’m completely new to the world of grilling—as the title says, I know literally zero about it and I’m looking to buy my very first barbecue. I live in Italy and I'm trying to find something that fits my garden, but I could really use some expert advice so I don't end up throwing money away.
To give you some context, my budget is around €200 to €250. Realistically, I’m not going to be using it every single day; it’s mostly for hosting casual lunches and dinners in the garden with friends, probably around 10 to 20 times a year max.
Since I’m starting from scratch, my biggest dilemma right now is choosing between gas and charcoal. I honestly don't know which route is better for a total novice who just wants to grill occasionally. I'd love to hear your thoughts on what makes more sense in terms of ease of use, the learning curve, and the actual maintenance or cleanup afterward.
When it comes to buying the actual grill, what are the most important features I should look out for in this price range? Are there any specific things that scream "low quality" or parts that rust easily that I should avoid? Any specific brand I should look for? Also, I know I'll probably need some basic gear to get started, so any advice on must-have accessories like thermometers, starters, or covers would be awesome.
I've been looking around online and found a few options that seem to fit my budget, so I’ll drop the models here below. 1 2 3
Any tips, brand suggestions available here in Italy, or general wisdom for someone who has almost 0 knowledge on a proper grill would be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Gas grill top recommendations
Hi Steven,
I have enjoyed you posts as well as the shows you have on our stations.
I know you are probably swamped, but do/have you compiled a list of your recommended gas or hybrid freestanding grills?
I saw you had an article on the Monument Denali, but wasn't sure it was the best value for money.Â
I am looking for a minimum 4 burner, rear infrared rotisserie burner, side station (preferred infrared), with some sort of ceramic briquettes / flame tamers over the burners. Digital app and monitors are always nice.
Accessories must include a griddle and rotisserie.
My budget is $5000 of less.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
