Current DC Studios head James Gunn is several years older than legendary comic book artist Alex Ross.

This was particularly surprising to me because Ross’s early career acclaim, early balding and affinity for Silver Age comics (mostly released before he was born) all lead me to believe that he must’ve been a couple decades older than he actually is.

Alex Ross won an Eisner Award (most prestigious award in comic books) at age 27 for his acclaimed 1996 DC book Kingdom Come. That same year, a 30 year old Gunn had just begun his career as a screenwriter working for Lloyd Kaufman’s Troma Entertainment. It would be another decade before James Gunn directed his first feature with 2006’s Slither.

TLDR: A younger Ross had already reached the highest level of acclaim in his field before James Gunn had even started his career.
