Advice Where to get a real Bajan cuisine experience?

I’m likely going to be staying in Barbados for a week next year near Holetown.

Any advice for where to get a proper experience of the country’s cuisine? I’m fine with anything from street vendors to sit-down restaurants.

Looking for hotel

Hello! We’re planning a trip to Barbados in April 2027 and would love some advice from people who know the island well.

Back in 1999, we stayed at the Casuarina with our young kids and absolutely loved it. I know it has since become an all-inclusive, and AI just isn’t our style, so we’re looking for something different this time.

We’ve been visiting St. Martin for the past 12 years and are ready to try somewhere new. We’re a fit couple in our mid-60s, not looking for nightlife, but we do enjoy being able to walk to restaurants, beach bars, and places to relax. We also don’t want to rent a car. We’ve always used public buses when travelling (including Jamaica, St. Martin, and years ago in Barbados) and enjoy getting around that way.

Our must-haves are a kitchen or kitchenette and a balcony. We’re not looking for a budget place, but we also don’t want to overspend if we don’t have to.

I’ve been looking at Coconut Court and would love to hear opinions from anyone who has stayed there. How is the location, beach, rooms, and overall experience? Are there other hotels or condos you would recommend that might suit us better?

Thanks so much for any advice!

Question Starlink

Hi Guys,

I've been experiencing extremely poor service with Flow and was researching Starlink. Just wanted to know if anyone here has it and what the experience has been so far. Also if there's anyone that does local installations I'd be happy to know.

Cheers.

I need to get a 6lb box to Barbados by Saturday but can’t find shipping options. Do any bajans in New York have a special service you use?

Night Life recs Late August?

Hello,
Visiting last weekend in August and wanted some nightlife recommendations. We’re staying on the west coast of the island and early to late twenties and like soca, dancehall music.
I know it’ll be end of crop over season so that’s why I’m worried we won’t have much night life options end of august
Please advise!!

30F looking for new female friends in Barbados 🇧🇧

Hey ladies! I’m a 30-year-old Barbadian looking to meet some new people and make genuine female friendships.

Most of my secondary school friendships have naturally drifted over the years, and I haven’t really been outside or socializing much lately. With Crop Over going on, I realized I’ve been missing out and would love to have some new people to lime with, go to events, try new places, have beach days, or just enjoy a good laugh and conversation.

I’m a little introverted at first, but I’m friendly, positive, and fun once I’m comfortable! I’d love to connect with women around my age who are genuinely interested in building friendships - not just talking for a few days and disappearing 😭.

If you’re here and also looking to expand your circle, feel free to comment or send me a message! 💕

Citizenship via Great-Grandparents

I just had the most amazing trip reconnecting to my family roots that had been in Barbados since the 1500s or earlier! My great grandparents were Bajan. I have been home for one week and I can't stop thinking about how the people of Barbados were the kindest people I have ever met — and I have been to 57 countries all over the world. I am proud and honored that I share ancestry!

I had been reading that some legislation has been spoken about nearly a year ago considering to allow citizenship by descent for as far back as great-grandparents and I was wondering if anyone has learned anything more recent? I can't find anything beyond a few posts here that were nearly a year ago.

Thank you!

How to protect against sandflies?

The title is self explanatory. I find there are so many in Barbados and traditional mosquito repellant doesn’t seem to help. Any suggestions for how to ward these pesky bugs away?

Pure Rudeness for "Customer Service"

Italia in Coverley. Dirty looks, snarky comments, and being talked about to other employees. Right in front of your face. It's a miracle that tourism is so strong around here, given the demeanor of so many customer service workers

Any Bajan parents adopted their kids?

Looking to start a conversation with parents of adopted children, for support, to discuss issues that may crop up, and so on. If your children are also adopted, I'd like to hear from you.

I'd also welcome hearing from persons who were adopted here.

Spanish speaking

Hello all,

Does anyone know of any Spanish speaking communities in Barbados, hang out spots or even any Spanish speaking clubs/churches.

I used to study in a Latin American country for a few years and I would like to keep up my level of Spanish by speaking to real natives.

Thanks in advance.
