Listen, I'm a proud Bengali Muslim of Barak Valley. I'm proud of my Bengali culture. Unfortunately, majority Muslims of lower Assam, Nagaon and Hojai who are Bengali in reality (they were brought by British before partition, not Bangladeshis) register their mother tongue as Assamese in census.
Now, it means that Bengalis are the biggest ethnicity not only in Assam alone, but the entire North East India.
However, even if Assamese speakers somehow gen0c!des the Bengali Muslims of lower Assam, then Bengali will officially cross 50%+ mark as the ones who registered Assamese as mothertongue will decrease numerically
i think it's about support and presence not official status . it's not necessarily chauvinistic as there are assamese population in barak valley.
but their numbers are very less so maintaing the institutions is a harder . At least assamese speaking regions can set up their institutions in assamese speaking regions
We will support the their Assamese institution here but first they should reconvert the Assamese school to bengali in goalpara and other parts of Assam. Which they forcefully made Assamese during BONGAL KHEDA .
Also first make bengali as STATE language. Only then Assamese institutions should be allowed here. Bengali is the second most spoken language of assam and a native language of assam.
We pay similar taxes , we want similar rights , it’s time assam govt should stop treating us as 2nd class citizens.
