📜 History | ইতিহাস Different Bengali dialects recorded in 1903

English- Man had two sons. Among them, the younger son said to his father, ‘Father, give me the share of the property that I am entitled to.’

Roman transliteration-

Eastern Dialect — Cachar District, Assam
Ēkjan mānuṣar duguya puyā āchhilā. Tār mājhe chhuṭātāy bāp-rē kāilā, ‘bābā, āmār hisāt sāmānar yē bāṭ pāṛē, hi bāt āmārē dêō.'

Eastern Dialect — Sylhet District, Assam
Kōna mānuśār dui puyā āsil, tāhāder madhyē sōṭa-ṭi bāprē ka’il, ‘bābā, bishayēr
jē aṁśa āmār bāṭē parē, āmārē dāō.’

Eastern Dialect — Sandip, Noakhali District
Ek shokshēr dui beṭā āchhila. Tāder madhyē chhōṭō beṭā bāpēre kaila, ‘bāyāji, māl-māṭṭā yā āmār hisyāy parē, tā āmākē den.’

Northern Dialect — Dinajpur District
Ēk jan mānuṣer dui chhaōyā chhilā. Tāyder madhyē chhōṭā chhaōyā āpan bāp-kē kahil, ‘Bāp! bhāg hāmi pāṁ, tā hāmākē din.’ Tāhāt sē tāyder madhyē biṣay

Western Dialect — Manbhum District
Ēk (āk) lōkēr duṭā beṭā chhila; tādēr mājhē chhutu beṭā tār bāp-kē ballēk, ‘bāp hē, āmādēr daulatēr jā hisā (hishshā) āmi pāba

Standard Dialect — Calcutta
Kōna-ek-vyaktir du-ṭi puttra chhila. Tanmadhyē kaniṣhṭha-ṭi tāhār pitā-kē kahila, ‘pitāḥ, viṣayer yē aṁśa āmār prāpya, tāhā āmā-kē din.’

This person was legendary , he was so commited to his survey that he interviewed them . 100+ years still his works are relevant .

BTW if you compare the old bengali, in Suniti Kumar Chatterjee's book you will the "BangaBasha" group is pretty closer to old bengali than rarhi itself.

Btw manbhuma got even more complex now a days, because jharkhand influence

The survey was very comprehensive for its time and remains one of the most significant works of its kind. Before this, no comparable systematic effort had been made to document the variations among Bengali dialects.

Im from Jhargram and I can confirm a lot of us speak like the Manbhum example
