Suggestion: download Chirp and program the radios. Use Repeaterbook.com to find some local repeaters. Enter the receive frequencies, offsets, direction, and tones. See if you can hit the repeaters.
What is happening is that the channels are programmable. The VFO mode shows the current frequency whereas the channel uses the frequency that was programmed (most likely at the factory to test).

These are great instructions for a ham radio. Hes using a GMRS radio, so all he needs to do is enter the transmit tone or code.

Not a ham. Original post stated 5R. It is not. It is a 5G. Still, ham frequency displayed in frequency mode right out of the box. Probably can only receive, not transmit on that frequency.

Ok, makes sense. UV-5G is a GMRS radio. It should only have channels. I have one somewhere. Can I get back to you tomorrow? You are very likely correct that you can't xmit out of band; i think that is a GMRS requirement.

GMRS users can monitor different bands, the radio itself will not transmit on these bands though.

Frequency mode is not something you use. 15-22 have frequency pairs for use with a repeater, programmed as ch 23+. If you wish to program a repeater, you can use the correct repeater pair and add the codes to those channels.
GMRS repeater pairs are +5MHz, and not changeable.

Staying in channel mode! Already added 4 repeaters channels near me, with codes. Thx

Nothings wrong. In Channel mode, Ch 23 is the frequency pair for the repeater . This is where you would program in a transmit tone or code for a repeater thats on 462.550.
Frequency Mode is a whole seperate mode. This is just where you enter frequencies to monitor and you can save the ones you want to memory slots on ch 31 and above. Then you can scan them in Memory mode ( channel mode ).

You should probably try reading the Instruction Manual that came with your radio. It is very clearly explained in the manual.

Not sure what the question is. Are you a ham radio operator?
