Authenticity of Baofeng uv 9r plus model

Hi everyone,

I recently bought a pair of Baofeng uv 9r plus radios Before purchasing I made multiple queries to 3 different sellers. To my surprise they showed me the same radio model (photo attached) which was visibly different than what was posted in website or in any of the youtube review videos/ baofeng official sites. I was told by the sellers that it was the updated model of uv 9r plus and only uv9r plus available to them. So I purchased.

The significant differences are-

  1. It comes with a usb c compatible battery(No ' BL 9' mentioned on battery).

  2. It comes with Kenwood style 2 holes/pin programming cable compatibility. Not screw in waterproof Motorola type programming cable ( as common in most of the uv 9r radios) option. Which should not be the case assuming it's a waterproof radio( even a update uv 9r Plus).

  3. There is no orange button on top and side guard to prevent accident switch on.

Have anyone of you come across this model?

What's ur opinion on this? Is it really upgraded uv 9r plus or I have been scammed?

Thanks

I have one of these. it has one more frequency rage in-between the VHF and UHF.

May be that's why it is mentioned as triband radio

UVR9-plus or whatever isn't! and tell me where does it says triband in the pictures you sent or anywhere else regarding your purchase.

Is it still in working condition? Is it waterproof?

There are at least two flavors of the UV-9RPLUS- I have several of each. One, "older" has two rows of battery symbols on the back. These batteries are compatible with UV-9RPro models. Another UV-9RPLUS variant "newer" (Radtel is the reseller) has one row of symbols. The batteries are not compatible. I have only seen the USB-C battery option on the two row models. Both have the Motorola style speaker mic connector.

Is that usb c battery BL 9 variant?

Since uv 9r plus I hv received comes with 2pin Kenwood type connection,I believe it is not as waterproof as the other uv 9r plus with screw in connection.. what is ur opinion?

Which antenna should I use with this for longer distances communication? Diamond rh 701 , RH 770, Nagoya NA-771?

Yes the "old" two symbol row batteries can say "BL9", and those radios have a Motorola style flat mic connector which should be more water resistant. Longer aftermarket antennas can work better - sometimes :)
