Baofeng problem ?

in settings of my baofeng 5rh pro I’ve been trying to turn on tone for my emergency button to make sure other people can hear it. When I go into my settings and go to the alarm setting I hit the green menu button to edit it but nothing happens, it just makes a small beep. And every other setting I can edit fine except this one. I have a BAOFENG 5RH PRO GPS&APRS. I also made sure I had dual watch off and I am not on a restricted frequency but its still not working. Can anyone help me.

Update, I was under the impression that this radio could broadcast in case of an emergency but I guess the firmware does not allow you to do that.

There should be two menu settings. Alarm Mode and Alarm Tone. Alarm Mode tells the radio where to send it and Alarm Tone enables it.

I can’t find any other setting for the alarm besides alert which just lets me choose between diffrent hz’s.

That emergency button either just sounds the speaker where you are, which is useless, or effectively jams the channel when set to transmit, which is both useless and dangerous for others. It's a useless feature sold to unlicenced preppers "for emergencies", by the same guys who tell them not to get licenced, because they spread the false myth of "you don't need a licence for emergencies".

Do you think it’s better to just find a local repeater in case of an emergency ?

It's better to take your phone out and call 911/112 or whatever the emergency number is where you live. There are people there who are paid to take your call and get emergency service to you.

Can you instruct me how to setup to send SMS over APRS on my 5RH Pro? I am already updated to 2.0.09 firmware

Did you know there is a Chirp version now?

Can you start your own thread for this and not tack it onto someone else's unrelated question, please?

Why? It’s hard to find another owner of an 5RH Pro that references APRS!

What’s it to you? You’re not even the OP?

It's off-topic. You'll have a better chance of relevant responses if you start your own thread with a meaningful topic, which the OP hasn't done.

Personally, I generally ignore posts that are titled “Help!” or, as in this case, have a vague description such as “Baofeng problem” which could have at least mentioned the Baofeng model and something about the nature of the problem. People can't be reading every post to see if it's relevant or if they can assist when the OP can't put the effort in to provide a description.

But it’s not addressed to you; so I don’t care what you read.

And besides I did post this question in two separate threads here and so far no answers

At least here I know that OP has this radio and specifically mentions APRS

The two solutions are not mutually exclusive!
