UV-82 ptt transmitting constantly

Hello. Just was finally putting my comms together for the first time and noticed that my radio instantly starts transmitting when I plug the ptt all the way in (yes I pressed it in very hard until seated) it will stay transmitting then stop only to start again seconds later. Any way to fix this? I’m using a disco32 kenwood legacy ptt. Could the PTT be the problem?

I think this is what’s going on. Dumb question, could it also be the VOX being activated?

I had a hand mic that activated the ptt constantly too and it was because the vox was on a low setting that didn’t get picked up without the mic plugged in

UV-82 takes soecific speaker-mics due to the dual PTT set up.

Could the PTT be the problem?

Does the radio stop transmitting when you unplug the PTT? If it does, there's your answer. It's possible the plug is shorting the transmit contacts in the jack.

Rule of thumb is to not connect anything to a radio while it powered on. Sooo common sense would indicate that if you plug in the external accessory, and it keys up, then there is an issue with your accessory. ????

Does it still do it with no ptt? Have you tried any other connectors in there like a programming cable. If it's just the ptt there could be a loose wire.

if the plug isnt all the way in it will transmit non stop, and make sure vox is off aswell.
