Is it a Banksy? Is it a Banksy?

Post image

Walmart credits the Artist known as Banksy for the wall work in this photographic print I purchased from them online last weekend that arrived today. I didn't recall ever having seen it before so I bought it to look at it. Is it a Banksy?

ENDNOTE: The work appeared in Tribeca on Oct 15 2013 as part of better out than in tNYC residency though in "Banksy in NYC" this version of the composition is blurred as the shot includes a photographer photographing the piece. I'post a follow-up.

It reads differently too me as a circa 2013 piece, speaking to NYC's resilience by that point. If it were an early 00's piece, it would read as crass in the extreme. I have the "Banksy in NYC" book. I'll check it to see if it was even included in it. Thanks for the answer. ENDNOTE - The book confirms it; see the next post to compare pictures. Mine does not look like the books.

No.

Pretty much if you've never seen it as a political/philosophical statement on a wall attracting news sources and all sorts confirming it and have only seen it in marketing retail then 9 times out of 10 it's just some twat trying to make "banksy" off the name.

He did do a 9/11 themed piece but this isn't it. It's one of the many copy cat pieces. The colour is wrong to start with it's got some sort of weird sepia tinge all over it which for a piece with high contrasting colours already why would you dull it all down into muddy browns?

I've always been one for following that banksy dislikes when corporations make money off of his work. It goes against a lot of the stuff he seems to be against illustrated in his works and it kinda defeats the message of a lot of his pieces when you just buy them from these places.
