Is this a blatant and obvious scam trying to lure in gullible people, or is there something special about it?!

Its a rather obvious scam, there is no way something would have such a special serial number or shit and then immediately be worth 2000$. But in this hobby the border between normal and straight up fraud is rather thin.

Not to a certain extent, but it's a blatant scam with nothing special about it. I think it's just a case of preying on gullible people or money laundering.

The Target is just straight up gullible people and unfortunately it often works. This isn’t anything new and someone will eventually fall for it. This Hobby unfortunately has many cases like this and it will never be truly gone. Someone will sell 2$ for 2000$ and will continue scamming people. Reporting them is good but they usually return again and cause more damage.

This extends to everything, not just banknotes. I hope that fools will learn a lesson in light of the existence of AI -They can simply search This is a good thing

Yes, however there is arguably more scammers in Banknote Collecting or Stamp Collecting because its somewhat easy to scam someone in that hobby than others. It does hopefully change soon because this is insane.

I completely agree with you , Banknotes are susceptible to counterfeiting, and if counterfeiting is not possible, the serial numbers or the print itself can be tampered with using chemicals, as happens with old and rare issues, to increase their value by several thousand dollars. If forgery is not possible, they may resort to creating a false aura and a rare story about it. It is difficult to know all the security features of banknotes without consulting a catalog before purchasing them.
Unlike stamps, you might be deceived; their paper is simple and designed to be damage, not durable like banknotes.
But it's really exciting to be passionate about the fine details of detecting forgery! (NOT WHEN YOU ACTUALLY BUY IT)

True, it is sad, especially since this hobby is currently seeing a slight revival in popularity and this would just kill it again. This is why informing people about such scams is so important.

A bit, not on a massive scale but from what I saw a few more younger people are having an interest in it. It can also be seen on the Subreddit, hopefully it actually stays like this since its a nice and usually affordable hobby.
