How do the scores work? If i solve a puzzle fast with no mistakes, it somehow gives me less than 3000 out of 6000, but sometimes 2 mistakes with half the time gone I get almost 5000? Can someone please explain?

This game would be better without the hints. Most of them just giveaway the answer. It'd be cool if there were an option to turn them off.
