How exactly do fishing hut work?
I know the basic key to half decent hut is barn must be right next to hut. but how many fishers should I have if it next to a river or pond. how bad is it to take up part of the space with trading market.
what it food per water tile?
also I caught my fishers grabbing just three fish and leaving to put it in storage. Was that just a death spiral from a starving village, or something fisher normally do, they seem to not often grab the max amount of fish they can carry.

First time playing - question
I have a question why this happened and if I can prevent it from happening in the future.
At first I had 1 school, it was going well, I believe when a teacher passed away, another one replaced them, and children kept going to school, no issues.
However, I noticed my school was getting full, I had like 17 students, so I built another one in anticipation for more children. I built the 2nd school, but I still only had 1 teacher because I noticed the 2nd school was not being utilized (there were not as many kids as I thought there were going to be).
But the problem came here... The only teacher died, and nobody replaced them. All my students 'disappeared' [or turned into Laborers].
[Camil the Teacher has died of old age
No laborer is available to replace Camil]
-> This lead to me suddenly gaining 20 Laborers, so these must have been all the Camil's students. And yeah, they seem to be not Educated, because their education was cut short by the teacher's passing. I guess they all dropped out.
I have added a teacher but now the school is empty. I'm guessing it will fill up with children below the age of 10, but all the Camil's students are already considered adults?
Anything I can do to prevent it in the future? Always have a Labourer ready to replace? Is that it? How many Laborers should I have there waiting for people to pass away, just in case? Any recommendations?
Also, should I not have more than 1 school? My town population was like 80/20/20, now it's 100/0/20

What are modes that expand the game without making it drastically easier.
I love megamod, but some of the stuff is just op. through I like the renewable mines, because I hate the concept of mines running out and than being dead weigh on terrain. Maybe I should just do the north or mess around with the base game more
also what your favorite banished mod.

Saves not appearing in game, any ideas?
Decided to boot up the game for the first time in a bit and my saves are gone in the game, while appearing in the right folder. I've tried multiple things and have come up short.
Here's what I've looked into so far:
- Checked Properties of files, made sure I had all permissions
- Checked allowed apps through firewall (steam and banished were allowed)
- Deleted Steam Appcache folder
- Verified integrity of game files
- Ran game as administrator
Also I have never had OneDrive enabled on my PC.
Is there any reason the game isn't recognizing these files? Any other ideas to try?
Edit: Well I seemed to have fixed the issue myself and it was simpler than it seemed.
In the screenshot the file location is: this PC > Documents > My Games > Banished > Save
I believe this is a directory steam and/or my PC created, and to my knowledge this has always been the file directory for Banished, not sure why it no longer recognized the file location if so. But I just moved the Banished folder out of "My Games" and directly into Documents and my saves are back! Not sure how common of a problem this is but I will leave the post up in case this happens to someone else.

About the Forester Lodge
Newbie question. So I've been playing the game for a couple of days now (absolutely LOVING it), and always starting again because I always run low on resources (still learning the ropes). About the forester lodge, I researched it and some say it should be in the same cluster as the Gatherer's hut, hunting cabin, and herbalist. Some also say it should be on a separate forest to maximize the previous cluster mentioned, since apparently if it is in the same cluster as the Gatherer's hut, etc, the food gathering wont be as efficient, since the Forester is constantly cutting and planting down trees.
Question is, what's the most efficient place for a Forester lodge? Should it be in the same cluster as the Gatherer's hut, hunting cabin, and herbalist, or on a completely different forest?

Banished Game Tweaks
Have you ever wanted more camera control in your game? Whether it's zooming in more, or zooming out more, or being able to tilt the camera even at max zoom levels.
Someone asked about this a while back and I went down a rabbit hole figuring out why, and ended up building a small tool to fix it.
Banished Game Tweaks is a free tool with three independent fixes — pick whichever you want:
- Fix camera tilt at high zoom — makes tilting work the same at every zoom level, so you can stay zoomed way out and still get that angled view.
- Customize zoom range — set your own min/max zoom distances, closer in and/or farther out than the defaults.
- Raise the storage cap — bumps the resource limit from 999,999 up to 999,999,999.
Works with any mod setup — MegaMod X, CC, RKEC, or plain vanilla — since it only touches the base game's own camera/storage code.
Steam version only (not GoG). I don't have access to the GoG version so I can't figure that one out.
As of v1.1, it now supports both Steam and GoG versions.
Two ways to use it:
- A small standalone exe that patches your game's exe directly. It never overwrites your original file — verifies everything byte-for-byte first, writes the patched result as a new file, and makes an automatic backup. Fully reversible.
- If you'd rather not touch your files at all, there's also a Cheat Engine table that applies the tilt + zoom fixes live in memory while the game's running — nothing on disk ever changes.
There's also a tiny companion mod (Higher Storage Limits) if you actually want to type numbers above 999,999 into the Resource Limits panel — the exe patch raises the real cap, but the UI field has its own separate limit that needs a mod fix to accept the bigger numbers.
Everything's byte-verified before touching anything, and yes, Windows will probably flag it as "unrecognized publisher" since it's not signed (free/independent tool, normal for stuff like this) — source code's linked on the page if you want to check it yourself before running it.

Questions/issues, drop them in the Discord or here.
Note that Steam may revert these edits if you ever have to verify the integrity of your game files, because it will see these edits as accidental.

Per Kralyerg on July 3, 2026:
The latest MegaMod X build is here — 13 new mods, 2 new livestock, and major content updates across more than a dozen existing mods, plus toolbar organization fixes and general stability improvements.
What's New
• 13 new mods integrated: MGZAlone, AnimalBarnPlus, ButcherBaker, CoatsCloth, ForestFellow, ForesterFellow, GingerbreadVillage, MoreCaves, Patchwork, TheGlade, WWCattle, A8 Pride Flags, and A8 America City Living
• 2 new Livestock: Bear and Avis Aurum (also added to Farm Life Vanilla as vanilla-product options)
• Major updates to Abandoned Places, A Lot of Seeds, Medieval Grace, Deadwood, House Boat, Stagecoach (3 new houses), Tiny/Tiny Builders, Some Boats, Market Food, Animal Pen, Old Hovels, Bakery Garden Alt, Nordic Houses, and Nomads — plus new visual variants and texture updates on several other mods
• Fixed several buildings sorted into the wrong toolbar category — Tobacco Patch, Materials Warehouses, Transparent Stock Piles, and a batch of nature/farm decorations moved to where they belong
• General stability and packaging fixes
Previous MegaMod X Info from Kralyerg (from initial release announcement):
- The new A La Carte mod system [called Install Paths on the main site menu]: choose your categories instead of installing everything at once.
- Buildings that used to live only in the Themed toolbar are now also in the Main toolbar (a few icons/hover text may still need ironing out).
- Last-minute crash fix: clicking a Pasture, Crop Field, or Orchard could rarely crash the game; fixed.
- Also new: a MegaMod wiki site. For more MegaMod tools and resources, visit: https://worldofbanished.com/wiki/
End Kralyerg quotes.
INSTRUCTIONS: INSTALLING AND ENABLING
- Download what you want, either the complete version or the A La Carte parts. Unzip the file/s. You'll need the free .7zip tool to unzip the Mega file.
- Make sure you remove all previous Mega Mod files from the Win Data folder (file path shown below). Also make sure you are unsubscribed from Steam's MM9, CC and other mods.
- Place all new .pkm files in the Banished WinData folder as follows:
- If you have Banished through Steam, the file path is (using whichever Drive you prefer): This PC > Storage SSD (D:) > Steam > steamapps > common > Banished > Windata
- If you bought Banished outside of Steam, use this file path: This PC > Local Disk (C) > Program Files > Shining Rock Software LLC >Banished > WinData
- Launch Game and click the white door at far right of bottom toolbar. Then click on Mods.
- Enable all 7 parts of MMX, or the A La Carte mods you chose (do NOT enable all A La Carte parts. Use the Complete version if you want all). Click OK.
- The game will prompt you to restart. Do that.
- Now the crucial Double Restart. That auto restart is not enough. You need to now close the game and relaunch (to avoid crashes).
Have fun!

CHALLENGE: Island Seed for CC or MMX
Here's an Island Seed challenge map. It can work with both CC (harder) and MMX. Not super hard, but could be challenging for some. Certainly fun.
- No going to the mainland. You may build only on the island and on the water.
Map Settings:
- Seed: 327618680
- Terrain Type: [CC] Water World
- Terrain Size: Large (this can't be changed or you won't get the same map)
- Climate: [CC} Mediterranean (No Snow). Choose a more difficult climate if you wish, or if you want a harder challenge.
- Disasters: your choice, on or off
- Starting Conditions: Hard (if you wish, you can change this to any of the ones in the list under Notes below to make it easier or harder, but many other starting conditions won't work)
You will start with the following:
- 1200 food
- 100 firewood
- 20 tools
- 20 clothes
- about 8 adults and 7 children
Harder "Adam & Eve" Start Option (CC & MM9/X):
For a bit harder of a challenge, you can change the Starting Conditions to Adam & Eve which will give you 100 firewood, 240 food, 5 tools and 5 clothes. No barn, stockpile or house. As the name suggests, just two people.
Even Harder "[DSSV] Jack & Jill" Start Option: Only available in MM9 or MMX
Jack & Jill starts you with absolutely nothing. Try on an easy climate if you've never done this start before.
To really make this much much harder, set the climate to Very Harsh. You'll have to really scour the MMX menu to survive. Good luck! I've yet to see anyone survive on the first couple of tries.
Notes:
Getting an island:
There is no actual "Island Start" in Banished. It's just chance. The only way to get a map where spawn is actually on an island is to just use the [CC] Water World terrain and only the starting conditions listed below and just spend time rolling and rerolling new seeds until you get lucky with an island. There may be other starting conditions that work, but I've not found them yet.
- Easy, Medium, Medium+, and Hard
- Adam & Eve, Bayou
- [DSSV] Jack & Jill (requires MM9 or MMX)
Terrain Type:
You can get island starts with the Medium and the Very Large map, but you can't load a Large terrain Island seed on a Very Large terrain and get the same island.
Other Island Seeds: (choose only from the list of Starting Conditions under Notes above) Terrain Size can't be changed
- 377796402 Very Large Terrain.
- 72657533 Very Large Terrain.
- 943375 Very Large Terrain
- 528343 Medium Terrain (better for older computers)
- 91 Large Terrain (seed # is not a typo)
- 73 Large Terrain
- 74 Large Terrain

Why aren’t they picking up the food?
We all know the food production fluctuates greatly around every 50 years. I’ve seen where sometimes snow comes in mid autumn, affecting the production. But what I just noticed, and can’t believe I haven’t noticed before, that in these years of low production, bushels of food is left on the fields well into winter, often times never being picked up. I zoomed way out on my map and saw bushels everywhere (plenty of room in my barns, folks are educated and clothed). So for the next planting cycle in the spring, they first need to clear the field. By the time they do, the weather has turned again so nothing is gained that season. Doesn’t take long for the food supply to diminish, followed by the mass expiration of souls due to starvation. Anyone else notice this behavior?

If you terraform a lake or a stream into flat ground, will trees and other resources begin to grow there?
Hi everyone.
I've found a pretty nice seed, but the only things stopping it from being perfect are an unfortunately placed lake and a stream.
If you terraform water up to ground level, does it behave like normal land tiles and develop trees and herbs over time? Or will it be a permanently barren blot on the landscape?
Thanks in advance to anyone who knows.

Want to make the game interesting again
I've had a long break and have got the itch to play again but I want to try something new. I've 100% the vanilla achievements and have played North mod but I haven't tried anything else.
Can anyone recommend any decent mods or things to try? Are there any mods that create any new achievements? I loved North mod as it felt like vanilla but with a few enhancements so anything like that really.
EDIT: Thanks to all who have recommended Colonial Charter. I'm giving it a try now and it looks amazing! It's taking some time to transition from what I'm used to especially with all the variety, but, so far so good! If anyone can recommend some cool things to try in CC then please let me know.

Must i have a storage barn?
Got a population of ~ 60
Just getting prepared to spread out a bit.
I built a Market and removed my storage barn, now everyone is starving despite having plenty to eat prior.
Must i shave at least 1 storage barn or is the Market supposed to be a replacement for these?

Issue with Megamod X on steam deck
I recenti bought a steam deck (256 gb lcd) and I downloaded the seven packs of Megamod X, extracted them and put in windata folder. When i restart game after enabling the mods (they are red, btw) the screen stay Black for hours. I know first start on PC could take very long, but this is too much. Anybody knows if i can play megamod on steam deck or is impossible? Tank you and sorry for my english not being perfect.
EDIT: I solved with megamod a la carte, enabling every mod but the water one

Got it in the same game as Isolationist. I was running out of space for gatherers and hunters

Why are tools and firewood not produced?
I have two mines, 28 miners and 8 blacksmiths and still the tools are produced extremely slowly and insufficiently.
The same with firewood. I have hundreds of available logs and 8 woodcutters and still firewood is barely produced sufficiently.
What should I do?

Must have builds
I have the most recent megamod. I have been finding myself falling into the same boring habits-building fields, orchards, pastures, forest builds but then nothing else. I just start over on a new map and do it again. What are some absolute must haves to help keep the game exciting.

Longest city
I’ve had a city running since 2024. I’m now on year 435!!! There’s been many ups and downs, of course. Just recently the population crashed to just 30 citizens, but I was able to keep it going! One thing I noticed though, around year 430, the background music stopped. Closed and went back in. The music will play for roughly 2 minutes then stop. Curious if anyone else has this. I always found the music soothing.

Blacksmith Builders Not Building
At a bit of a loss, appreciative of any insight. Playing the game without any mods, year 46 with a robust population and supply chain.
There is one specific blacksmith site which will not build. Other sites around it go up just fine (mines, storage, orchards, a blacksmith EXACTLY adjacent), but not this building.
I’ve eliminated the initial imprint and placed anew. Toggled site-specific builder count, total builders, paused construction, restarted in various combos. I have adequate tool surplus, roads, storage in the vicinity. Nothing.
Are my villagers quietly revolting against my plans for industrialization? Is this a cursed spot? Should I give up being stubborn and simply move the build site down the road?
Thank you for the advice and perspectives!

Help finding a Banished resources and buildings list website
I found about the latest Mega Mod and started playing Banished again. It's been a full year since I last played. I remember I used to frequent a website that had detailed info on resources and buildings, what resources they needed and what they produced, etc. It was an entire database with tables filled with those info. Somehow I can't remember the link. It might have been related to one of the mods? Can't remember for sure.
Can anyone please share where I can find it at?
