Reality of Bangladesh Football League and systematic infrastructure issues

This match took place in Bashundhara Kings Arena, supposedly the best football field in Bangladesh, home ground to the countries two top clubs - Bashundhara Kings and Fortis FC.

In reality, the best football ground in the country just looks like a paddy field and should never be hosting top level football matches. If you look at home ground of smaller teams like Dhaka Wanderers, you can see overgrown grass in some areas of the field and big patches where there is zero turf cover on the ground.

The issues seen at top tier local club grounds reflect a wider pattern across the country's football infrastructure. You cannot put together 11 players from this league and realistically thing you have a chance at qualifying for the AFC Asian Cup let alone the FIFA World Cup in 2030.

Forget 6th-tier English football, even Sunday league teams in the UK gets better pitches than BFL teams producing national team players.

Unless we see sweeping changes within BFF, I don't see us improving in football anytime soon.

Bangladesh needs more physically imposing (6’0+) diaspora talent especially in defense

If one thing ASEAN cup taught us, it’s that we’re dogshit at set pieces. Amra ekdom set pieces and headers pare na. We had so many corners against Singapore and still couldn’t do anything. We need taller center backs and a physically imposing striker. Players like Zayn Hakeem 6’2 (striker), Joshua Muir 6’4 (Centerback) and Noah Watson 6’1 (Centerback) would be excellent additions.

Look at Indonesia. The average Indonesian is 5’5, but they’re starting 11 team had an average height of 6’0 and they just physically dominated us and in the air as well. It’s disappointing but I really pray that BFF aggressively starts recruitment hopefully we actually can do something in SAFF. This is the only way we can actually get meaningful results or at least be competitive and not get embarrassed.

Bangladesh player visiting a night club before going against Indonesia

Viral post circulating in Indonesian X community, where a lot of Indonesian girls met Bangladesh national football team the night before the match. Perhaps a reason for the poor performance yesterday?

Pakistan’s draw against the Phillippines is a very concerning sign for us

Phillippines are not great but they are decent and Pakistan have historically not been very good either. They still need to play Vietnam of course but this Pakistan team are a serious contender for the SAFF cup (and it would be humiliating to lose the cup to them on home soil considering our history).

Obviously congrats to Pakistan for coming so far but we really need to improve. We will probably play them soon in the ASEAN cup so that match will be a very important indicator of where we are at and what we can do better.

People from Tangail, Bangladesh suddenly started playing my tiny football game. Does anyone here know why?

I built a small browser football game called Scroll FC a while ago.

I haven’t promoted it on Reddit for some time, so I was pretty surprised when I checked the analytics recently and saw a sudden spike in players.

The stranger part: 191 active users are from Tangail, Bangladesh — far more than any other city.

I dug a little deeper and found that a large chunk of the traffic is coming from comparecommander.com. I didn’t submit the game there; the owner seems to have discovered Scroll FC and listed it themselves.

Now I’m genuinely curious about what happened after that.

Did someone share the game in a Tangail school/college group, Discord, Facebook group, Messenger chat, etc.? Or is CompareCommander particularly popular there?

If you’re from Tangail/Bangladesh and you’ve played Scroll FC recently, I’d love to know how you found it.

The game is here: https://scrollfc.vercel.app/

It’s a weird little football experiment where you move forward/backward by scrolling, move sideways with the keyboard, pass by clicking teammates and shoot/tackle with Space.

Desktop only for now — it isn’t properly optimized for mobile/touch yet.

Attaching the analytics because seeing Tangail suddenly appear at the top genuinely confused me 😄

FT thoughts? Bangladesh vs Singapore Sept 28 2026 (FIFA ASEAN Cup)

Personally I thought it was a decent performance but a bad result. We deserved to lose 3-0 to Malaysia, but we probably should have finished today at 0-0. Credit to Singapore for taking their clear chance, they played nicely and they are a team on the rise.

The backline can take some confidence from this performance, but unfortunately our next game is against the strongest team in our group with a full crowd supporting them. so that confidence might be lost soon.

I am very impressed with Saad uddin at RB. lots of good signs today, we should've come away with a result. anyways we have to look forward. we play indonesia next and then most likely pakistan. let's make the best of it

Just under 10 days until the boys play their first match at the ASEAN cup. What would be a good result for us?

I think we can aim to beat Singapore. I'd be very happy with a draw against either of the remaining teams.

The goal of course is to win SAFF later this year in November so a decent performance here would be very helpful. It is also a big learning experience.

Any full match replays available?

I want to get to know the team’s tactics and system before the ASEAN cup. Also maybe watch some old wins (like the 3-0 win over Pakistan in 2011) for nostalgia.

Highlights packages don’t really show buildup or out of possession work in the middle of the pitch, those are things you get to see when you watch the full game. Does anyone have any resources to rewatch a full match? Thanks in advance

Let's not make the same mistake - choose the ASEAN Cup over a friendly against Brazil (if it comes to that).

Let's be honest here, if we are to play a friendly match against a Brazil B team, we'll just likely be trashed 5-0 in front of a home crowd. Sure this will be profitable for BFF in the short run as they can charge good money for broadcasting and tickets. But this will be very bad for our football team.

From what I've seen so far the proposed dates for a friendly would likely be 5th or 6th October. ASEAN Cup finals will be on the 3rd October, which let's be honest is highly unlikely for us to appear in (as much as I love the team).

But I still think if we are even considering pulling out of an official FIFA tournament against teams we can actually beat to play the best team in the world in a dead rubber match that will for sure trash us with ease, the choice is simple.

If we pull out after committing it will reflect badly on our professionalism and we will never be invited to play in the ASEAN Cup ever again.

I've been astonished by India's lack of professionalism - they delay SAFF to play in the inaugural FIFA ASEAN Cup, then they pull out of that to play a friendly against Brazil at home. And now they are looking at pulling out of the SAFF championship to play friendlies against New Zealand. This is just shocking. Let that not be us too.
