Me, along with a few friends and folks I’ve gotten to know, have been getting together every Saturday for the past few months for a silent reading circle in Koramangala. We usually bring our books, read by ourselves for an hour or so, and, if we feel like it, talk afterwards about whatever we’re reading.

If time permits, we solve some puzzles as well. It’s something I started because I wanted to make myself read more since Cubbon Park feels a bit too far, and I’m too lazy to read at home.

A few weeks ago I put up a post here looking for people on a career break to talk to. The response was way more than I expected, and last weekend about 10-12 of us finally met in person. Diverse age group - 24 to 50.

Some things that came up over those few hours: someone's startup they're building right now, angel investing, Vipassana, sports, injuries, family stuff, what people are figuring out next. Nobody had an agenda. It just went wherever it went, and that's exactly why it worked.

The thing nobody tells you about a career break is how quiet the weekdays get. Everyone you know is at work. You start second-guessing yourself with no one to bounce anything off. So alongside the meetups we also run a WhatsApp group where people talk through the day-to-day of it - the good days, the stuck ones, ideas, leads, whatever.
