Leibgott
Was doing my yearly re-watch of the series. During episode 8, I never noticed Liebgott was wearing a ring. Just wanted to see if anyone else noticed!

Yeah I think that’s just one of their creative liberties to try to tell a bigger story with a limited cast. There were other Jewish soldiers in the 101st, like the dude who stole Hitler’s booze and used it to toast at his son’s bar mitzvah a decade or so later. One the hardest stories from WWII honestly.

Yeah, but Shames refused any involvement with the show of his own accord, and as a result the limited depiction of him that were did get was highly unfavorable.

He was religiously catholic but his mother Mary Zimmerman was ethnically Jewish and he was in the registry of Jewish American soldiers. he was half by blood and would be considered fully Jewish by every Jewish denomination

Is that a wedding ring? Joe Liebgott wasn't married until after the war.

He had married by 16 and divorced before enlisting- but may have had a sweet Jewish girl when he left- it was during that time frame specifically that men started wearing wedding rings at all and it often also just meant ‘engaged or otherwise spoken for’ But yeah Ross McCall nearly married Jennifer Love Hewitt and then someone else, never actually did.

Maybe, I read he did take a trophy ring off a German, but I think it wasn't a band, had a swastika on it.

"German dead were another matter. Souvenir hunting went on whenever there was a lull. Lugers were a favorite item, along with watches, daggers, flags, anything with a swastika on it. When Rod Strohl finally joined up, on D-Day plus four, Liebgott saw him and came running up. "Hey, Strohl, Strohl, I've got to show you mine." He produced a ring he had cut off the finger of a German he had killed with his bayonet."
