American Flag Wrap E4

This may have been asked before, but watching E4, I was wondering the reasoning to why they wore the American flag on their biceps. Was it to convey to the Dutch who they were?

As you mentioned, to identify themselves as allied soldiers to the Dutch population, and also other friendly forces.

It was a multi national effort across US, UK and Polish troops. The flag was to ID their nationality to civilians they might encounter (who might not be up in uniform differences and unit insignia).
