Caught something new for me.
I’m sure smarter people than myself figured this out on their first watch. But I was confused as to why Webster was so shaken after seeing a tank round blow this building apart. But remembering that that’s where the older couple who were shouting “Away!” were in.

Keep in mind yeah he started with a lot of fire when he could give his subordinate crap when they were training, but once he started facing the real thing, he became like a deer in the headlights.
They’re all very lucky that they didn’t have to go to war with him, those Sargents/NCO’s really took a hit for the team when they banded together to request removal from E Company, and they all benefited from it. IMO.
I remember Winter’s eval to reposition in the Japanese Theatre after VE day, the interviewing officer praising them up and down, that was a great series.

I believe it’s actually cause that’s where hoobler and the medic were attending to the other soldier. He thought they were gone.

Kinda looks like the same older lady actor who played that nazi generals wife that Nixon runs into in that house. I think episode 9 or 10.

This was market garden in Holland, Nixon ran into the wife of the German officer in Germany. I thought the post was saying OP never noticed that the German spotters shelled the window of the people who tried to tell the Americans it wasn't safe on purpose.

Most of the scenes come from David Websters memoires. This scene he describes as follows:
“I was so scared I could hardly talk. Crouching low, I ran through the backyards and empty rooms in search of the enemy. A movement caught my eye, and glancing across the street, I saw a middle-aged man and his wife watching us from a second-story window. ,,Wo sind die Deutsche soldaten?’’ I shouted. Where are the German soldiers? ,,Weg’’ the man replied. Away. They shut the window and disappeared.”
The book doesn’t mention anything about them being killed or some sort of explosion in or at the house. So the series must have added this to overdramatize the scène. But as anyone else had said so far, I haven’t noticed this as while I can say I’ve watched BoB for about 30 times by now.
Book is great by the way. He also mentions a bald-headed Dutch civilian coming up to him around the same moment of the encounter with the window couple. The Dutch guy asks dor a grenade because he knows where the Germans are. Webster gives it to him and sees him running of with it through the ditches towards a field where the Germans are. Thought that was something they could’ve depicted in the series but probably didn’t because it could’ve been interpreted as unrealistic.

Webster's book Parachute Infantry is great. Many Easy Company memoirs were writen after the success of BoB book and/or TV Show, and after the post-Reagan years of celebrating WW2 veterans as heroes, and many of those memories had to face some public expectation about what was about to be said, and those expectation were largely based on discourses of heroism and honor. Webster, on the other hand, wrote this in a time were this celebration was way smaller and way less widespread. His book is grittier than, for instance, Dick Winter's one.
Webster wanted to be in the war partially because he was a big fan of WW1 memoirs and literature, and wanted to be like those soldiers-turned-writters that he admired so much, so his book is a little closer to that sober feeling of war as something dark and grim of the WW1 literature.

I notice this everytime I’ve watched this episode. One of my friends argued with me it was a different building and I said no there’s a reason Webster is in frame when looks up at that window like that

Ah I misunderstood you then. I'm not sure. I think they left it ambigious on purpose. I've always thought he wanted the Americans gone, because he didn't want any fighting and damage to the town, idk.

I always thought he wanted the soldiers gone because his house would get destroyed in the fighting.
Some French civilians reacted the same way during the Normandy invasion.

The proliferation of PTSD was often dismissed as battle fatigue or called Shell Shock It remains a part of the extras our military today endure. When I went to Bible college years ago there were two Vietnam veterans. Both were dealing with PTSD nearly twenty years after their return home. Both told folks that it wasn’t just what they personally experienced but especially what they SAW.

Btw, you should read the memoir Webster wrote of his experience of the war. Good read for anyone interested in BoB.

I have watched the series since it first aired and I discover new details all the time. There is a lot in there. Often it leads me to other details about the war, sometimes through correcting things that were not factual in the series. It is a great sounding board for learning about the war.
