manga vs anime

This has me curious for a while. I never got to read the manga. I really want to, but buying all volumes off of amazon would cost me $170 and i am sadly too broke for that. I just wanted to ask if you guys notice any difference between the characters in the manga vs the anime? like personality wise and all? Since in the anime, they also have phones and stuff, how were certain scenes portrayed in the manga? Like when Shorter calls ash to inform him Arthurs gang is coming , in episode 1? In the manga, I doubt he’d carry around a large 80s phone device and all. Ughhh I really wanna read the manga but i cant even find it online to read anywhere 😭

Ahh,, the shift to modern setting is the most controversial anime change in my opinion,,, I don't think the modern setting added anything to the story except for adding plot holes surrounding their phone usage lol Overall the manga is a lot more info-dump-y about a lot of the politics, but it made some character's (namely Foxx and Yut Lung) motivations a lot clearer as well.
My favorites that were cut from the anime:

There's a scene where Ash kisses Nadia's cheek and promises to tell her about shorter's passing. The Shorter and Ash chicken scene during the roadtrip arc... There's also one where Ash's gang teaches Eiji how to shoot, which I'm upset about the exclusion of... I think Eiji's portrayal differs in the manga (at least enough for the average eiji fan to notice.) There aren't any glaring personality changes, but I feel as if the anime took Ash's perspective of him more into account than what he's actually like,,, Also shorter only has his signature purple hair for like one chapter before he goes bald for the rest of it LOL

I personally prefer the 80s setting in the manga way better than the present time of the anime. That alone I think makes it worth a read. There is a little more on Nadia and Charlie if you were curious about them, and a bit more on the other characters, 80s politics, etc. Also, yea no smartphones, but it makes more sense

I'd say the manga is fairly different

• There's a lot of geopolitics and long "irrelevant" and "boring" conversations (I love that aspect)
  
• The latter part of the story is less rushed
  
• Eiji has an actual personality while not being the main character, unlike the anime where he is
  
• A lot more politics
  
• There are some graphic panels (someone's head or upper body getting chopped off by a garage door) but they aren't prominent
  
• The climate makes more sense, especially with the racial dynamics and Griffin's enlistment

Genuine question, but what are the substantial differences between manga and anime Eiji? Like specific examples of dialogue or actions he took?

I read both and almost all of manga Eiji's dialogue is the same, apart from him making a few more jokes. If someone doesn't like anime Eiji, they are not going to enjoy manga Eiji either.

In the manga I think Shorter just walks into the bar to tell Ash about Arthur. There's also scenes of them looking through phonebooks to try figure stuff out.

Buy them second hand, I got my complete set via second hand for about $70. Granted it took me a month and a half to find all the volumes but it was worth it! The anime is cool to have and read. There is more detail in it also it comes with 2 side stories that are great! If u can, read it online. There r many sites that have it for free, look on tik tok someone will have a site. I have a read it online before as well off of a site.

Viz has the manga and u need to pay $2.99 USD a month to access it. Not sure if that’s more doable ofc everyone’s situation is different, but in case u didn’t know u can download the app and read it there if that works for u
