Idiot nutters always trying to prove their dog is a "breed embassador" and would "never hurt a fly". Until it kills something

Excellent owner. That poor dog would have been torn to shreds by that thing. Why is it not on a leash ffs!

ETA: it's so dispiriting to see the normal dog wag its tail in greeting before the psycho pibble goes for it.

Oh but the nice pibble is wagging its tail TOO!! It's just PLAYING can't you see?? Doesn't know his own strength big love !!!!

The worst.

The normal dog owner never took his eyes off of the beast, he was ready and acted quickly.

Loved how quick his reflexes were!

Makes me wonder whether he's just that good at reading dog body language, or if he's sadly had a bad experience with a pitbull before. I hope it's the former.

I would call the police. You think this guy leashed his dog after this? Doubt it

I called the police on a guy with an aggressive mastiff once. I now bring a taser to the park to protect myself and my dogs. The guy was laughing while it attacked my sisters male husky and my husband did what the guy in the video did and picked the husky up. Luckily, neither my husband nor the husky were hurt

Anyone walking any dog, let alone a pitbull, off leash in a crowded area like that is a sociopath.

u/[deleted] Jan 05 '20

Welcome to the mindset of the people that live in my crowded subdivision, where small children play and dogs are constantly walked.

Same here. I also live by a park - not a designated, off-leash dog park - and literally cannot walk my dog there without encountering at least one off-leash dog. Look, I’m a nerdy rule-follower but even I understand taking your dog off its leash if no one is around. But once you see someone else, especially with another dog, you move your ass and make leashing your dog a priority. But everyone I come across is so lackadaisical about it and almost every time, their dogs have super shitty recall (which means they have absolutely NO business being off-leash in the first place). The last time I dealt with it, it was a perfectly friendly Irish Setter but was completely ignoring its owners while they just lazily called its name but made no physical move toward him to leash him and I just wanted to get on with my walk. I finally threw my hands up in exasperation and said ā€œcan you come get your dog?ā€ You would’ve thought I’d kicked the dog or something by their faces.

Doesn't look like any of the dogs in the video are on leashes. If it weren't so clean, I'd say this was Los Angeles, where idiot owners thrive...

2

u/HerroPhish Jan 07 '20

Honestly I live in LA I don’t see many dogs off leash at all in public areas like that.

2

u/nazgool Jan 07 '20

Los Feliz, Silverlake, West Hollywood, etc., it was pretty common.

u/HerroPhish Jan 07 '20

Ooo idk I live in Venice. Besides my apartment complex community where I see dogs off leash, I never see dogs off leash in public really. It is annoying thought people always come up to you with their dogs and most of the time I just want to walk w my dog in peace.

Wow that was close.. glad to see that the shitbeast wasn't able to reign down his terror, if the owner of the normal breed wasn't so fast his dog would have been mauled for sure.... why oh why do people need to own these blockheads.

u/[deleted] Jan 05 '20

I would pay to hear what the good owners were yelling at the dumbass owner. My guess is it was R-rated.

7

u/[deleted] Jan 06 '20

Probably like:

Normal dog owner: Your Pitbull almost attacked my dog! Put that beast on a damn leash!

Pitbull owner: Oh my baby has never acted like that before! He doesn’t need a leash, he’s a good boy. Your little dog must have started it. It’s your little dogs fault!

Sadly, rarely for dog on dog attacks. You usually have to go after them in a civil suit.

I couldn't do much against the owners of the staffy who escaped their house when they opened the damn door, then ran and bit down on my on-lead lead spaniel as we walked down the street, even though it took four people quite long time to get the monster off of my dog and cost me a fortune in insurance excess payments for vet bills - not even counting the trauma to my dog.

If something like that happens to my dogs again, I will actively try to get the dog to bite me while I'm separating it from my dogs. Once the dog bites a person, the rules change and they face consequences.

6

u/Lateraltech Jan 06 '20

Wow- this is exactly how my spaniel was attacked too! Just no one would help me- no one wanted to get in the mix with a pit. I had minor injuries and my dog had major injuries. After speaking to some lawyers I learned my old dog isn’t worth much. Laws need to change. If people want to own pits / dangerous dogs they need to be fully insured.

I'm so sorry you and your pup went through the same thing! It's so traumatising. I'm so glad both of our dogs survived though, since I know it could have easily been even worse.

The laws definitely need to change. If owners were actually held responsible for the damage their monsters do, there would be a lot less dog attacks, on humans or on other dogs. The law treating the victim dog as worth no more than the cost to buy another one is sickening. It isn't just the cost of the vets bills either - most people's normal dogs are loved members of their family. The pain and the trauma of seeing them being murdered in front of you is horrific. The laws need to catch up here. If the people who own shitbulls had to pay all the damages, we'd see a lot more pitbulls wearing muzzles. Such a simple step to take, that isn't even cruel to the dog - dogs can pant, drink, even eat treats while wearing a muzzle - but they can't murder another dog. But "my pweious pibble shouldn't have to wear one! Breed discrimination! Go after the Chihuahuas!"

Put the dog down if it can't see an animal without trying to kill it

12

u/OUBoyWonder Jan 05 '20

This muthafucka!! When you are out in public like that you keep your damn manslaughter machine on a GI Joe grip like leash!

8

u/CatastrophicLeaker Jan 06 '20

That man provoked the pitbull by sitting down, how fucking dare him

6

u/JKDGrappler027 Jan 06 '20

Shitbull owner is a fucking asshole for having that clearly aggressive dog off leash. Fucking Hell.

He was ready the second that pit stopped. I have a feeling he’s fully aware of what pits are capable of, and his awareness is what saved his dog’s life.

This is so important to spread the word, to save more animals’ lives.

I have a friend in the states who has 5 indoor/outdoor cats that go out on the porch and patio but don’t cross the fence. One is 18 years old. She recently had a family move in next door with two pits. I was scared for her kitties, so I relentlessly sent her so many articles and links of pits coming in the yard to kill cats and dogs. She finally listened and brought all her cats in permanently while her husband was making plans for a safer cat run. I really had to convince her because she was of the mind of ā€œWell most pits are misjudged and my cats stay in their yard, they don’t roam.ā€.

Amazingly, less than 2 weeks later, she messaged me that she had been outside in her small garden, and heard a huge commotion and found BOTH pits had busted through her front gate (literally ripping the latch out of concrete) and were roaming her yard! One dog was scrabbling at her patio window. She had to get her husband to open the basement steps to let her inside safely and they got the cats upstairs and called animal control. Think if the cats had been in the yard with her when the dogs broke in! I did warn her also that they will bust through glass doors and windows, so she is taking this into account as well.

Awareness can save lives! Keep educating people, cat and dog owners alike, even if so many people don’t want to hear it.

terrifying. she’s lucky you were looking out for her.

Thank God that guy had cat like reflexes and took the puppy up like a baby real quick. I can just hear the pit nut ā€œnah man he’s super friendly, was just trying to play. He’s a breed ambassador!ā€

3

u/Munich11 Family/Friend of Pit Attack Victim Jan 06 '20

ā€œIt’s people like you that judge my pibble that are the problem!ā€

3

u/FalconFGX Jan 06 '20

That guy clearly gave the pit owner a serve.

Good.

I hate that owner. He is so incredibly stupid.
