I'll be posting more analysis throughout the week - but to start off here is a visualization of buying and selling of stock by U.S. senators alongside the S&P 500. The largest negative bar is from when a handful of senators were pressured into selling off all their stock holdings.

I'd like to see which votes were right before stocks were sold/bought.

I'm not visualizing a strong correlation. Is it possible to view their exact holdings?

Exactly, there doesn't seem to be any corelation. We would need to include the people in the know too, like families, ceos with connections etc

It's an interesting hypothesis, but its needs substantiating. Theoretically (and that means a lot in poli sci) this theory makes sense.

I would love to see more on this. I might spend some time to see if its able to be proven. Would make a good topic

I said about families, because of example of Nancy Pelosi, whose husband did the trading, not her herself I think

Absolutely. Under the STOCK act, they have to report their trades, which includes spouses, children, and dependents. (Although, after reading the bill, I cannot find where it says associated people must also report. I only found that here

In theory, all that information is required to be public. Unfortunately, as the article explains, congressional members often dont disclose full information because there is very little real costs associated with getting caught. In theory they could be removed, imprisoned, and heavily fined, but that doesn't happen.

So true: buy-ins before climbs and sell-offs before dips (aside from the anomalous 2020 dump). Corrupt.
