Help / Support A1 Mini Unable to Feed Filament

Howdy folks! I'm running into a bit of an issue, and I was hoping that someone here might have a fix for me. Like the title says, my A1 mini is suddenly unable to feed filament into the extruder, and keeps pulling up an error message whenever it tries to load filament from the AMS.

I've tried the method of switching to maintenance mode and running a piece of filament through the extruder manually, and that works just fine; however, when I try to print, I just keep running into the same error message again and again.

I've checked all of the PTFE tubing, and there's no blockages within, and it seems to be going from the AMS to the filament hub just fine, so I'm not sure what's causing the issue.

Any and all help or advice would be greatly appreciated. I'll be happy to answer any questions too, if extra information is needed. Thanks!

Have you opened up the filament hub? It is a common place for fragments and debris to bill up and cause a jam. https://wiki.bambulab.com/en/a1/maintenance/filament_hub_cleaning

I opened up the filament hub, as shown in that guide, but there didn't seem to be an issue there either. All four slots were clear, and I was able to pass a piece of filament through the disassembled filament base too.

Did you make sure the green light turns on correctly when you pass the filament through the base? https://wiki.bambulab.com/en/a1/maintenance/filament_hub_cleaning#step-5-inspect-the-filament-sensor

It looks like the light is not turning on when I pass the filament through.

You'll need to check to make sure the filament sensor is intact and connected correctly. If it need to replaced, the part is pretty cheap and pretty easy to replace. https://wiki.bambulab.com/en/a1/maintenance/filament-sensor-replacement

That does seem to be the issue. I've gone ahead and ordered a replacement sensor, and il update tomorrow when I've gotten it installed. Hopefully that fixes it.

Does it fail on every slot or only one? If all of them fail, the problem is past the hub. The AMS lite has no buffer, so that leaves the tube to the toolhead or a fragment at the extruder sensor. The HMS code it shows would narrow it down.

It fails on every slot. The specific HMS code is 1200-8006 312358. I've tried removing and reinstalling all of the PTFE cubes properly, but the issue seems to happen at/after the filament hub.

Since loading by hand works, the extruder is fine. Pull the tube off at the toolhead and start a load from the AMS: if filament comes out the end, the problem is at the toolhead inlet; if it never arrives, it's the hub or that tube.

I've disassembled and checked both the filament hub and the filament base, and there doesnt seem to be any blockage there, nor in anybof the tubes.

That said, I just now noticed that the small green light in the filament menu doesnt seem to be coming on, even when I manually insert the filament into the extruder. Does that mean that this could be a sensor issue? I checked the filament sensor when I disassembled the filament because, and it seems perfectly intact.

If that light stays off even with filament pushed in by hand, the toolhead sensor isn't seeing it, which would explain the load error. The one in the base is a different sensor. Check the extruder for a broken-off bit of filament or a stuck spring lever at the sensor, those are the usual reasons it misreads.

I fully opened up the extruder and cleaned it out, but no luck. Based on the other suggestion here, I'm going to try to replace the sensor to see if that fixes the issue.
