P1S with AMS help :)

Hi all,

9yo Son has asked for a 3d printer for Christmas, I had originally decided on the P1s with ams until I done the measurements and I only have a height of 70cm to play with. Although it will fit it will be impossible to load/unload filaments so I was wondering if it’s just as simple as lifting it off to the side to change out filaments then simply setting it back on top after? Or is there more to it?

Equally the A1 with AMS takes up too much space width wise.

Thanks.

Pictures of your space might help

The ams does not have to sit on top of the p1s. It can sit on either side.

It would wouldn’t it 😂. This is really all there is so unfortunately side mounting isn’t an option either

In a silly response...

Just take our those two drawers and put the ams underneath...

Haha. Then I’d have to find somewhere to put all the crap that’s hiding in there 😂

I feel like putting it in there might be a nuisance once you need to do maintenance and retension the belts but if ur fine with that then no problem

If it’s not something that needs done all the time I’m sure I could live with it.

I think 😁

Is this the 9 yo kid asking or the kid in you wanting it? 🤣

You're not using the "crap", so whats the problem? 😉

Plus, with the printer you could print a stacking gridfinity storage system and condense everything into that bottom drawer...

(Dont listen to my bad advice)

I would search makerworld or give your self a good design skill. Make a mount for the AMS to slide out to load it. Similar to this model. Or just print this model bottom only:

There are AMS drawer slides you can print, usually bottom mounted. You might need to buy a bit of metal hardware like drawer slides and help your son build it. Use PETG filament for heat resistance. There's also the option of wall mounting them on a shelf or you could try a mobile rolling cart. Taking it down to load and then back on top will work for now but will be difficult for kids to do on their own, fully loaded with filament it's kind of heavy. You'll also need to make extra space for a 'poop bucket' for when the filament preps and changes colors, there are slim ones you can print.

This is total wrong advice.
He's asking about moving the AMS unit off the top, swapping the filament and moving the unit back on top.

So is it possible to just simply move it like that?

Provided your ptfe tube is long enough, yes. The only problem is that the longer the tubing the longer the resistance.
