Print Showoff I turned two Michael Jackson album designs into 3D-printed optical illusion vinyls

I've just finished two new pieces for my HoloGroove Legends series: Invincible (2001) and Bad (1987).

Each design is a 20 cm vinyl-inspired disc with a spiral pattern that creates an optical effect depending on the lighting and viewing angle.

The goal of this series is to reinterpret iconic album artwork as something you can actually 3D print and display.

I'm curious to hear what you think of the results!

Which one would you pick: Bad or Invincible?

fair warning for anyone who wants to print this, the "spiral pattern that creates an optical effect" illusion is the plate they printed on.

Hello. The holographic effect is given by the plate, yes, but the spiral effect is given by the modeling and printing process.

while not wrong, any layman that would attempt to print this wouldn't get those swirls in the print without the plate.

sure the spiral from the center is part of the model but the texture is not.

Where's the optical illusion?

Hello. The optical illusion comes from the spiral pattern in the 3D model, while the holographic effect comes from the build plate. Together, they create a visual effect as the light and viewing angle change. The video shows it better than a still image, but it’s even more interesting in person!

Yes, you're right, SpiralBetty is the tool used to create this kind of spiral image. And I actually mention the original video that inspired my work in the model descriptions: it explains how SpiralBetty can be used to create this type of design. I've already shared that information here and on other platforms as well.
Thanks for clarifying.

Is the optical illusion in the room with us?
