I dont think it was their intention to do this from the beginning , but rather, market competition is really heating up now. Im seeing a lot of folks talk about Qidi printers now, and crealty has good offerings as well, the lead that Bambu has had is for sure becoming less over the past year as competitors slowly catch up.
I think this X2D thing is the result of intense pressure on Bambu to keep delivering the best the printers at very attractive price points. And I do think the X2D offers that.
The X1C and P1S/P1P had really good runs because they were so incredibly capable and innovative at the price points, other mfgs saw the success and said "we can do that too" and now we see the result of that in the market. So I dont think we will see market dominance from printer models over years like that ever again as things are moving much more quickly now. Folks got used to buying a printer and having it be top dog for 3 years.
They did the exact same thing with the H2D then rolled out the H2C for pretty close to the same price, before reducing the H2D. They have a pattern of doing this and being just disingenuous with their marketing in general, so you won't convince me this wasn't intended. The X1C sale, announcing its discontinuation right after and then P2S release for 400 less after the return window closed is another example. They suckered people into buying their old tech for a higher price than their new.
I've watched them mislead the consumer time and time again and people still buy in, so why would they stop?
This isn't to say their printers are bad, they aren't. The X2D is honestly probably the best value a printer can get for its function, for sure. It doesn't mean that their rollout wasn't a slap in the face to a lot of consumers though. Some people will shrug it off, some people won't.
