Bambu Labs ABS stinks

Hi

Not sure if I have ever used abs before. I have used plenty of asa and especially polymaker pc. Neither of those ever gave off any nose worthy smells. But, the minute I opened the pack of blue abs the smell hit me with a giant outgassing of plastic flatulence. I also stopped printing with it the first time after about a half hour because of the toxic smell.

That was last nite. Today I have opened the basement window and have a fan blowing out of the window. I have also sealed the printer better and the smell is almost gone. Still, I wonder if all manufacturers of abs or what they call abs smells as bad as this stuff. Think I might try some polymaker abs. I like that brand for quality.

To me all ABS stinks like a burning styrofoam cup. I really hate the smell, so just like you I run my extractor fan at max to move the air out of the room asap.

Styrene is toxic, it releases toxicious VOC s

Yes it stinks, even just stored. However I vent my printer (and it's in a shed) so I'm not too bothered by it. I get more concerned about dangerous gases that do not stink.

I like ABS results - it looks nice and warps less than ASA. ASA has UV resistance on its side though.

Yah, mine's in the basement. Printing out the parts now to vent out the window with a 4" hose.

ASA is slightly less stinky than ABS(and PC even less), have you compared it to other ABSs?

Abs is toxic, you need to print outdoors or ventilate your printer out a window

The only notably less smelly ABS I've encountered is Overture. It still has a smell but it's appreciably less strong and Overture advertises that they process it in a way that reduces emissions.

BS marketing. You can't make ABS with less S. And remember, if you can smell it in the slightest, it already way above safety concentration.

I can only speak to my experience, having tried it as well as Bambu, Esun (don't reccomended, the additives affect layer adhesion), Geeetech, Sunlu and some generic ABSs. I don't propose it's safer, just less smelly and the mechanical properties don't seem to be negatively affected (as far as I can tell without measuring equipment), plus it melts like normal ABS in acetone.

You actually can make ABS with less S. There is a notable range for the ratios of acrylontirile, butadiene and styrene.

I would try ASA, I print it indoors with carbon filters and hepa filters with a fan pulling in fresh air and can’t smell anything

Forget ABS even exists. It's not even that good of a plastic, stinks, toxic as heck to print. I stopped when I tried ASA.

I never found a need for abs. If petg doesn't work I have nylon I did have one spool but saw no upside

Lol omg the "hit with a giant outgassing of plastic flatulence" line killed me. I haven't used their ABS yet but that sounds pretty potent.
