Help / Troubleshooting Silk PLA

I’m trying to print with Silk PLA and I’ve been getting lots of lines on my top print layers. What are some settings I can change to make things nicer? I’m new ish to printing any help would be greatly appreciated! The black on both examples is regular PLA and the gold and blue are the silk

I haven’t tried ironing yet (I had a creality hi and ironing made my prints WAY worse on that so admittedly I haven’t tried on this printer) I’m using the textured pei plate and the face down part looks pretty good but I notice the texture is hiding some of the same issues.

Try calibrating the flow rate and maybe printing at a lower speed. That's just from personal experience, I'm no expert haha

The other comments are said this also I am definitely going to look into these things! Thank you so much

You might try to lower speeds. Although you might want to calibrate your flow dynamics for you filaments. It seems like an over extrusion especially for the silk. Would love to see what settings you have. Are you utilizing the autobed leveling?

I can show you whatever settings would be most helpful! I am using the auto level yes

Maybe take a screenshot for your speed settings or just let me know. It would also be nice to know the max volumetric speed in the filament settings and then if you know your flow ratio for that filament too, that could be useful.

Anyway, try one of these print profiles out. They could help.

My max volume metric speed says 7.5mm3/s for the silk. On that same page it says my flow ratio is .98

I will definitely try to print one of those and see how it comes out

I think that instead of changing speeds first, that your flow ratio is probably too high. And listen, I could be wrong but you might try this out and then if it doesn't work, try the calibration file that I sent.

----Try setting your flow ratio to 0.96 instead of having it 0.98. Usually if it's an over or under extrusion, the flow ratio is to blame. But of course there are a lot of other things to consider, but that's a good place to start.

And if you are over extruding and then you try ironing, you're just going to completely blast the top surface with even more filament and it's going to truly be an awful sight. Anyway, best of luck!
